Not good for the sport! Hard to root for these 2 (SML,Mu) they rarely compete and don’t seem to enjoy the sport. Don’t announce you’re going to compete in a DL meet against your main competitor in 400H if you’re not going! Go ahead and be a model, we would like our stars to compete! Sorry but the truth hurts!
It’s all about context. If Jakob said he had to withdraw because of injury would anybody doubt him? No, because we know he races every chance he gets and he’s motivated to win these global medals as much as anybody in history. We would assume his leg must be falling off if he scratches. Syd and Mu, every bit as talented, or more than Jakob, not so much.
I agree somewhat but they’re not helping themselves with the framing of everything. I feel like Olli Hoare also showed how it’s done. The rosy “every injury is minor, but we’re thinking about Paris” routine isn’t fooling anyone.

speaking of not good for the sport, the Kersee camp is going to make it harder to get paid as a track athlete. If companies can't count on two event favorites to show up to worlds.... Expect higher reduction clauses and more bonuses for world performances in liu of a high base salary.
Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, who has Olympic and world titles in the 400-meter hurdles, is withdrawing from the world track championships because of injury.
Just follow the career of anyone near Kersee. He should always be under suspicion and his antics might work in the 100/200 world when folks are ducking each other weekly and trying to mentally challenge opponents but in mid distance there is no place for it. I’m sure few have little patience for it and track is slipping into a black hole so somebody needs to stop this clown and his shenanigans. Guess the Diamond league matchup between Bol and SML after worlds is cancelled as well. Imagine if other pro sports did this. Mahomes isn’t playing today because the quarterback coach said he broke a toenail. It’s hard to live as long as I have and see someone continually giving track a bad name for so long like Kersee. Investigate, find facts and ban him for life. Hi me and Salazar can sit on lawn chairs and talk about the good old days together.

Hoare was beyond transparent. He gave a blow by blow history of the injury with granular details about going for the MRI, etc. It’s also clear that Hoare is devastated by being unable to race. His mom had to fly from Australia to comfort him. He’s moping around with his dog. Mu and Syd and Kersee on the other hand have made it clear they don’t like to compete and they’ve created through their own communication strategy a lack of trust with the public on these matters. They are in “the dog ate my homework” territory. it’s a true shame because if Sydney IS injured, nobody believes it.

I think Bobby, Sydney, and Athing Mu need to take media training. Their comments make bad situations even worse. They have a tendency to:
1. Only share partial information that leads us to speculate. Why not tell us exactly what type of injury she has?
2. Frame the issue as insignificant (“minor knee issue”), which leads us to get upset that they are missing a major competition.
3. Make it seem as if the only thing that matters is getting ready for the Olympics. Yeah, we know the Olympics are most important, but that doesn’t mean you have to dump on the world championships.
So annoying!
100%. We need to know what the injury is. And I donn't want to hear crap about Hippa. If this was MLB or the NFL, we'd know what the injury is.
If she doubles next year, thought, the media will tell us how grueling and amazing she is to run 1 400 every day for a week.
Next Year's Schdule August 4, 12:35 p.m.: 400 hurdles first round August 5, 11:55 a.m.: 400 first round August 6, 7:45 p.m.: 400 hurdles semis August 7, 8:45 p.m.: 400 semis August 8, 9:05 p.m.: 400 hurdles final August 9, 8:00 p.m.: 400 final August 10, 9:20 p.m.: 4×400 relay final
Kersee is complaining about the schedule but next year's schedule is optimal for SML and NBC. They can hype her up and keep in the news for a full week.
I think it's only Nike with the reduction clauses but I could be wrong. NB doesn't have them (that came out during the Boris Berian saga a few years back)
Kind of ironic the no reductions came up with Berian. Wasn't the ideal guy to be reduced? Whatever happened to that guy?
Last I recall it was a series of injuries and he pretty much faded away. Never got anywhere near the form he briefly had when he was looking to leave Nike.
