Left his race in this workout. Didn’t have a crazy close in his 3:37 race. Will be tough to beat Kessler, Hocker, Teare and Nuguse. I’d put my money on Nathan Green over Holt in a tactical 1500.

I hope I'm wrong about Holt. I hope it turns out he's ready to run with the big boys, but when I look at his racing record this spring, I just don't see it.
The workout clearly didn't help, but maybe the truth is that Holt just isn't fast enough or savvy enough to run with the big boys. Maybe his 4th at USAs last year really was about how weak the field was, and not about how close he was to breaking through.
As before, I hope I'm wrong. I hope Holt channels his inner Kate Grace and spends the rest of the summer running fast and winning races. But again, I just don't see it.
First time I saw holt, I was a senior in high school. It was a duel meet in outdoor track. (I went to a hs in the same league him in section 1 NY). I was a pretty decent distance/xc runner (mid 17:30 Bowdin runner, for the NY runners who understand) and this unknown freshman from Carmel was pushing me like crazy in the 3200. I knew every kid on a personal level who ran sub 10 3200 in section 1 (in part to the dyestat forums back then) but a lot you just meet racing over and over for 4 years.
This f$cling unknown freshman beat me at my home track at a duel meet and also almost beat by my teammate who had won section 1xc (top 4-5 in the state in class a) for 2 years in a row. (outleaned at the line). I said to myself, I'm going to remember this kids name.
Fast forward 10 years.....
Watching his interviews, and seeing his story from a top down view. This kid is pure grit. I wish nothing for the best for him. I hope he does more altitude training (idk if he's full time training there) and I'm a lifelong fan.

I read this back and realized its not "fast forward 10 years". Its fast forward "15 years". Lol f$ck I'm getting old.
there are stories about every fast kid growing up. not sure of your point here. at the end of the day, he'll never be signed because all he does is whine and complain on social media. ffs he was crying about too many runners in his 800m heat weeks ago. so cringe. like stfu and just run dude. doesn't help he has a coach why thinks the best thing to do between NYC GP and USAs is run four time trials in one session. yikes.
If OAC did this you guys would circle jerk it and start doing tricks all over it. Give the man some respect, we glazed the OAC guys for the sub 4 10 days out from Klecker/Nguse at BU.
He made the final and ran right around his SB, so no reason to say he left it in that workout. I do think he raced poorly, moving around too much and spending too much time in lane 2 in a fast race. He's a 3:35 guy racing guys with faster PRs; you've got to run a perfect race and get lucky to make it and he was neither. A hard workout 11 days ago had nothing to do with it.

As another observer with ties to that NY Section 1 league during the 'Holt Era', I will add that watching his hybrid of "Fleeing The Scene Of A Crime" and "Breaststroke" running styles back then was always fun. 😆
I think it would be more useful to figure out where Holt should've stopped that workout after the 1200 2:51.
Scrapping the 1000m rep and just clicking off the 600 after a short set of slower 400s would've been about right. You could also just stop it after the 1200 and 1000 and save the other sharpening work for later.
Holt is on his way to <1:44 and <3:30 but just because an athlete can complete a workout doesn't mean he should.
Correction to above Correction: Holt did win the Victoria 800 race on Sunday . . . after winning the Harry Jerome 1500 on Friday . . . and will be racing the 1500 this Saturday night at the Sound Running Under Armour Sunset Tour meet at Occidental College . . .
