If Molly Seidel is able to make it so her Olympic Bronze was only a stepping stone to a better accomplishment, great for her.
However, every athlete has a rise, peak and fall, in their abilities. If Molly Seidel finishes her career and her peak turns out to have been an Olympic Bronze medal, she will have much to be proud of.
She did a 10k and then threw in some additional mileage for a nearly 20-mile day. She didn't exactly taper for the thing, if you look at her Strava mileage. She's been near or over 100 miles a week for a couple months now.
So Molly has been running the high mileage training plan from Coach Jon Green for the past couple months and is STILL this slow? What happened to the red herring that it was Molly being a super responder to high mileage at slow pace that allowed her to go from injured Starbucks barista to world class marathoner in just a few months before Olympic Trials? Just goes to show you all the fud spread by Molly and Jon to cover things up.
My daughter Carrie challenged me many years ago to get out and be more active........... Tough Mudder courses are the result of that challenge. It gives me ...
Give her a break. She's struggling with serious mental health issues and has had OCD since childhood. Can't we get mad at dopers and cheaters and leave her out of it?
I heard that later Molly was on a flight and the straight white male sitting next to her had NO IDEA he was talking to the 17th place finisher at the BAA 10k! What a loser!
I’m not a fan of Molly. Or Centro really for that matter. But this line of thinking is so dumb, I had to respond. The woman has a bronze medal. She showed up for the big one.
Some people need the bright lights and big stage to perform. Are you gonna try to take away Centro’s gold medal because he never broke 3:30? How many big finals did he run well at?
Running humbles us all at some point. 99.9% of our humbling happens largely in private at a 4th of July 5K or similar….
Centro's PB of 3:30.40 and 3:49.32 in the Mile are wayyyyy different than Molly's 2:24.
For one, even today, Centro's 1500m is the 4th fastest of all-time in the USA. Where as Molly's is 13th in the Marathon.
I don't think you can even compare the two here. Centro won Olympic and world indoor titles in the same year, and medalled in two straight world finals (in addition to several national titles)...Molly has an olympic medal but only made one team, and I can't think of any notable national titles she has as a pro, if any. Centro is in a different tier than Molly, simple as that.
A "Superstar" does not have a marathon PR of about 2:25. That is sub-elite level. Very good but no way a "superstar."
Well, if she ran on a perfectly flat course in perfect weather with male pacers and no competition to worry about and had the best super shoes (not Pumas or first gen. Sauconys), then she would probably have a faster PR.
All you need to know is she ran a 2:27 in brutal heat and humidity against the best in the world and came in third. I also ran the BAA 10k yesterday, the heat and humidity weren't nearly as bad as Tokyo 2020 and I still melted in the second half of the race as did most of my teammates. I don't know how she survived that marathon.
I presented two examples of runners who are not treated fairly sometimes on LR. I completely agree that Centro is in a different category than Molly. He’s had a longer and more distinguished career.
The real reason that I cited Centro was that I thought it would be easier to make a case about a 1500 runner than a marathoner because of course variation, conditions, and the sheer unfairness of the marathon as an event.

The poster wasn't ripping her at all or not giving her a break. He (or she) was stating she had one great race but that Sisson, Hall and others have raced to much faster times. Does anyone on here actually read posts and understand them?

Sisson is current AR holder 2 time Olympian, and probably has more in the tank. Hall has been really good but no OG, and not likely to qualify in 2024. Neither has an Olympic medal. At the end of the day, Seidel has an Olympic medal. Olympic medals mean at least as much if not more than the AR. It's just the way it is.
She has one bronze medal. That is cool and all but it takes multiple medals, at least 9ne being gold, to be a superstar. Every Olympic medalist is not a superstar. The worst player on the a water polo team that wins a bronze has an many medals as Molly.
A medal is a medal and she earned it but one bronze is not superstar. Heck, how many swimmers earn a few and we don't even know their names.

No, it’s “just the way it is” to the feeble minded dolts.
It’s one race and yes it’s a medal. If she never runs again for the rest of her life, both Sisson and D’Amota will have much better careers with a bronze in the Olympics.

without a bronze…they don’t need one to have had better careers.
Super stars win races. They don’t win the bronze in the Olympics and finish 4th in a marathon major. They win the gold and finish 1st in a marathon major.
Yes a short drug aided high-time. Now that she is clean because tue was denied the true potential shines through
How does a drug that constricts your capillaries and suppresses your appetite a performance enhancing drug for marathoners? It's not like reaction time off the line is a factor.

You are probably also one of those that say EPO doesn't work.
You ever see how much energy a meth junkie has and how lightweight they get on it?
Who cares if she runs 33, or 34 or 35 in a 10k? She's a marathon runner. Actually, an olympic medallist marathon runner! Others have run in 30:xx but have no medals...
