We merged two threads on the same subject into 1. The original thread was entitled, "Mo Katie closes in 1:47.1 to run 3:36, winning euro team champs." We merged it with this thread which was started by LRC's Rojo.

Another reason Jakob can't let the 1500m go slow, the final 800 was faster than his season's best in the 800 last year. Could Mo be the guy to beat Jakob?
Jakob would possibly have beat Katir with about 1 sec as he have done several times the last years.

Jakob would never in a million years let a 1500m race be run in 3:36/37. Case closed.
Umm, ever heard of Abdi Bile? He ran 1:46 flat in his 3:36.80 WC win in Rome in 1987?
I just hand-timed Katir. He closed in 1:48.58 by my watch. Really nothing to see here, don’t trust all the splits you see. The ones that actually appear on screen make sense with the figures.
EDIT: timed again and got 1:48.54. Sorry it’s a garden variety close.

Of note, Abdi Bile was Jama Aden’s “assistant coach” at his setup in Sabadell. Even more concerning was seeing him pal around with Gary Lough and Bashir Abdi in Eugene last summer. Of course, after Rhonex went down, everything changed for me- I’m no longer surprised.
Mo Katir, on Saturday, achieved an uncontested victory in the 1,500m. The man from Muleño, in a permanent state of grace, dazzled thanks to the last 800 meters in 1m 47.10s, a partial that, throughout history, has only been available to runners of the stature of the Portuguese Rui Silva (1m 46 4s in Athens 2004), Hicham El Guerrouj or the American Bernard Lagat. Gabriel Lorente’s pupil also took the championship record (3m 36.95s).
I didn't believe it if I didn't see it with my own eyes.
Ndikumwenayo, the new pearl of Spanish athletics, helps the team achieve its best result in the European Games
To Mo Katir, the great sensation of Spanish athletics, the athlete who a few days ago fell below 3m 29s in the best 1,500m race of this century, and to
You are talking about the world record holder in the steeplechase and predicting great things based on your visual appraisal of his body? Is this another VIPAM? Of course he is going to do greet things barring injury and I can tell you this without scrutinizing his body.
It makes for a worse story but there is video of the race and he closed in 1:48.5 approximately. Anything else is hearsay and tall tales.
Then Bile in Rome 87 was in 3:28 shape? (the WR was 3:29.46).
Aouita was clearly the favorite that years but the Britannic were playing their "hide and seek" games and there was a lot of pressure on him.
If you believe Coevett that says its Aouita that was avoiding confrontations, you have the good example of what is happening to Ingerbrigsten this year and last year.
Anyway there was a scenario for separating Aouita and Cram in Oslo that year 1987, and Abdi was with group of Aouita. Take a look at his performance:

No because I love "Top Model" runners..
The guy is 1 month younger than Jakob and was bright at the high level before Jakob but he belongs to one of these countries that are defavorized.
Suppose Girma do what has done S. Hassan and expect what will be happening.

No he will not do what Sifan Hassan has done. I think Girma is great but he cannot do what she has done.

Jama Aden also coached Bile to his 87 world championship.
As well as Dibaba, he coached Abubaker Kaki of Sudan to two world indoor 800m titles, whereas back in the late 1980s and early 1990s he helped guide fellow Somali runner Abdi Bile to a world 1500m title in Rome with a performance that effectively brought to an end the period of British middle-distance dominance.
Bile really went up another level entirely in 87. In the summer before he was soundly beaten by Ovett who was in his thirties and had already moved up to the 5000m.
