I think Barega tried maybe not as much if it were at worlds but Aregawi showed something we havn't really seen with a nice finish. Yismaw Dillu the surprise of the race in 3rd, I believe just under the standard and ahead of Tadese Worku
Jeez what was that last lap for Aregawi? He looked almost like Hocker that last 50m the way he was flailing to the line.
Only 59ish, maybe 58.xx. He’d just done enough work in the previous 3k to burn off any kick from Barega, and he didn’t really get going till the last 100m.
Yeah all the surging and such took its toll. Barega did seem to avoid his top gear. Both guys are in Lausanne and it’s possible that’s a match race for who gets the 3rd 5k spot
My goat Aregawi is my pick to get 2nd in the 10k at worlds... maybe even challenging for the win. I would say that Kiplimo is unbeatable in the 10k with his 12:41, and cheptegei is always dangerous in a championship, but if he peaks well Aregawi should be well in the mix to win.
Probably useless to speculate but I wonder if EAF opts for Worku who is coming off of injuries and has run at a very high level before. Seems like a case could be made and he is a Demadonna guy so it will be made ha.

Man I really struggle to call Kiplimo unbeatable give his history in track championships. He seems very beatable. Has he ever beaten Cheptegei on the track?
5000: Cheptegei 3, Kiplimo 0 (could probably exclude 2 of these as they occurred in 2016 and 2017 when Kiplimo was still quite young, but he soundly beat Kiplimo in Tokyo)
10000: Cheptegei 3, Kiplimo 0 (could exclude 1 as it was 2018)
Kiplimo is getting older and improving, I think, but had a 7:27 or whatever to his name when Cheptegei smoked him in Tokyo (2x) & Eugene.

From DFL in your U20 cross country squad only about 17 seconds ahead of Leo Young to potentially being on a senior WC team... Easy to say that's a turn around.
I was just wondering are women just better range-wise than men? How many sub-3:30 guys have also run 12:45/26:30/2:04? Or maybe it's something to do with shoes or training? Jakob is probably gonna end up with top 5 times in every event at least through the half marathon, and Kiplimo's at 7:26/12:41/57:31.
Women are NOT better range wise than men. This subject is somewhat complicated. The depth of women is still not anywhere near the men. Remember range is a relative concept. So depth is the primary reason for the appearance of better range among the women.
I think that is true - on the depth - but I think with the women, the shorter events are more aerobic than they are for men, which means they are more similar to the longer events.
That's going to change, however, as the women 800/1500m runners get back down towards steroid era times.

I agree. The dithering and indecisiveness we saw from from him on the track at times during 2020-22 seems to have waned. Oslo looked like an emphatic advance on this front.

Correction typo: Federico Rosa is Aregawi's agent. Was shocked by how huge Rosa looks now. He's a doctor so that type of massive weight gain is counter intuitive. I've always been intrigued by obese doctors who should lead by example.
