You are ignoring the biggest parts of the issue. They now must hire a distance coach for an assistant coach salary in an extremely expensive place to live. That means they will get someone less qualified for a lower salary and without a "head coach" title.

Any recruiting slots, financial aid allocations, and admissions benefits will now more likely go disproportionately to the head coach's event groups.

The sprint head coach will spend less money going to competitive cross country meets and more money going to fast sprint meets during the track season.

You clearly haven’t paid attention to anything said. They have a distance coach on staff who worked with the women for the past 10yrs who will now be working with the Men as well. It is already listed on the website.

And, that women’s team has seen huge team successes over those last 10 years. Gotta give credit where credit is due to coach Kirk for running a strong program.

I think most of the posters are missing the real point here, which is: why the heck do you need a masters degree to coach track and field? It excludes lots of very qualified potential coaches who don’t want to spend $/time to get a degree for a job which pays peanuts, and it really is a huge advantage to people who come from $/time and don’t care about the expense. I can see why it would be an advantage for a candidate to have a masters, but can’t see why it is required.

Without this rule, PP still has a national championship winning minority coach. Seriously, just change the rule and keep the guy

1. No doubt PP has built a XC dynasty under the last three coaches (Tony Boston, Jordan Carpenter, and Kyle Flores). Now Tony Boston is on to bigger and better things at Dickinson. Same goes for Jordan Carpenter – developing a promising program at BU. Excited to see where Kyle Flores goes next with a national championship under his belt and fresh off a record setting track season (wtf is a steeplechase?).

2. Amber Williams may be an excellent coach and excellent hire for the PP athletics department and PP track - but at the cost of the distance program (boohoo, sad). That being said – how long will she stay in this steppingstone role before she moves to a D1 program? And will it be long enough for her to learn how to pronounce ponoma?

3. Kirk Reynolds has been around long enough to pronounce the name of the school but can he pronounce the names of his athletes or write a training program? Clear to see Coach Emma DeLira and the pressure from the rise of mens team is really what prompted recent success on the women’s side.

It helps when you inherit a group of 5 who nearly AVERAGE under 24 for 8k before the new coach even arrived.
