She went out pretty hard through 150 then did as little as possible to hold the lead through 600. She then smoked everyone the last 200. She’ll be a factor as this looked like an easy effort.
(If you can't see that Mu is absurdly gifted...more than any other 800 runner... you're not paying attention. Season opener and she walked away from the field. Hodgkinson has a shot at Mu, but she's not beaten her yet)

She beat and walked away from a field of pathetically slow Americans. Yes, I agree : )
3rd, 4th and 5th place in the race have all run 1:59.01 to 1:59.26 this season; the #2 time in the world this year is 1:58.16 (Ajee Wilson).
3rd and 4th place are ranked 5th and 10th in the world respectively by the World Athletics rankings system.
3rd, 4th and 5th place have PBs of 1:57.85, 1:58.09 and 1:57.38 respectively—two of those coming in the past year.
Several women in the field are serious contenders to make the U.S. World Championship team. The USA has been the strongest country in the world in the women’s 800 over the last 5 years.

2nd, 3rd, and 4th - not 3rd, 4th and 5th. Sorry, I’m tripping.
"the Athing Mu that has dominated the world over the last two years"
I don't remember any dominance in 2022. I remember Mu barely winning by 0.08. That is exactly what I remember. And as I read in e.g. Inside the Games: "Racing for the first time since she narrowly defeated Britain’s Keely Hodgkinson in Oregon [...]"
"Though Mu has not raced in almost a year, she has still been busy off the track, including switching coaches and agencies and moving across the country to LA."
I don't remember busy Mu. I remember Mu dancing in the stands, bored and lazy.
Do you want to play "patriotic local press", bla, bla, bla, or to be the perfect judge?
BTW. Such Aussie, Catriona Bisset, would smoke her.

Bored and lazy you say? And yet, Mu kicked a** today.
Mu is also in a strange place mentally and she's not ready, nor will she be in time. She won't break 1:59 in NYC and will look like garbage.
Athing Mu ran 1:58 and she beat a field of top Americans by 2 seconds.
Any other bad predictions you want to make?
You must have brain damage, a 1:58. 73 is barely breaking 1:59 and she had to work her ass off to do so. Keely ran 3 seconds faster than her and you are acting like Mu did something. She was .27 faster than what I said and she absolutely looked like garbage.
