No one is even touching this guy. Don't forget about the mental aspect of running and the importance of confidence. Unquestioned GOAT rn
Yes Jakob is great. The way he won the world 5K with a casual water break and kick was amazing. The field was loaded. Then his recent 1500m PB was also impressive. He's fun to watch, and confident. Others are also very good but Jakob is the favorite in the races he competes in now.
It is not normal to feel hatred, depression and resentment all of the time. This is a recurring theme with you.
It's time for you to look inwardly and figure out your own problems, because it's not the people who are out there succeeding in life who are bringing you down.
His mentality is just different. He is ultra competitive. I always compare him to a "prime Michael Jordan" type of mentality. Most great distance runners are very humble people, not this kid. He is a killer and he's been since he was 10 or 12.

Yes, Jakob is a killer, but if you listen carefully even to the humble Kipchoge, you’ll realize he’s a “killer” too. How about Bekeke? Peak of arrogance! No, I think the all time great distance runners are all very “arrogant” when it comes to the sport and their competition. Arrogance however means having an exaggerated sense of one’s abilities, but then what these greats are expressing is not really arrogance, is it?
I agree. Jakob didn't understand the El G question at all. Listen, he knows he's not an all-time 1500m top-list kind of guy. I think El G has run 28 times faster than Jakob's 3:27.95 so there is some work to be done.
C’mon… maybe he didn’t understand the language?? that’s an insult to his intelligence, his English is as perfect as the most well spoken, American, Brit, whatever. Ingebrigtsen is simply a master at setting himself apart.
It’s not some thing appealing in a buddy you’d like to go have a beer with, but who knows maybe in a way that’s what it takes for him to be the best. Not everyone acts that way, but he does, and in fact, at the moment he does seem to be the best.
Surprised most people here disagree. The respectful thing to say is that Whigtman is a great runner and it'll be tough but I know I can pull it off. Pretty much any other pro runner would say something like this.
and that's exactly why distance running is soooooo boring.
this guy is great. more on the sprinters personality than distance runners but somehow he is good with words and never takes it over a certain line.
you got some real problems you need to sit down and work out with yourself if you don't think this guy is great for the sport.

NINE times Hicham ran faster than 3:27.95. How do you come up with 28?
You would be cocky too if you were that good at something.
I think for as good as he is, 1500-5K, in todays world..he does not show boat in my opinion, always chases asked for fractions..rarely loses, yeah he does, but not often, I am not sure what folks want..a non colorful guy? In every other sport including sprinters in this sport? Is it that much ..really? He asks for fractions, gets them and runs to them..how many races do we watch, where they ask for the fractions and sit 20-30M off? I am a fan, sorry.
He has made a whole interview in the past on how he wants to be like El G.
El G is one of the most obvious doping cheats of all-time. He probably retired because he didn't want to risk getting caught. Not that Jakob would be clean either though but he certainly has more talent than El doper.
What's the basis for your claim that he certainly has more talent?

High motivation, self belief and a killer instinct. Your mental game has to be vicious to live at the top.

The best way to defeat Jakob in a 1500 global final is for someone to sacrifice themselves, intentionally or otherwise. Perhaps team tactics. Allow Jakob to settle into his comfortable spot for a long time then loop around him and accelerate to clear advantage. Just after 800 would be ideal but anywhere in that range. Jakob would have to think instead of relax. The mental stress alone can sap critical reserve. Even if he made the correct decision he might get it wrong for 5 or 10 steps, just enough to be compromised late.
Completely agree, really good analysis. As far as team tactics go, none of the top potential challengers (Katir, Nuguse, Cheruiyot, maybe Wightman) have much incentive to work together. Maybe Hoare and Garcia Romo try something like this for Yared if they all make the final. Interesting to think about.
The problem with this approach is that he's in such amazing shape that him taking it out easy feels hard for other top athletes. It's not realistic to just loop around him. This is a guy who keeps fine tuning his performance and who learns from mistakes. I have to believe he keeps that loss to Whitman fresh in his mind daily. With his level of fitness he can almost guarantee a win by front running from the start. I'm sure he doesn't see himself as a short or long kicker, but as the fastest one over whichever distance he is racing. He can only lose to himself.
