Actually the last 0.1 mile. He lost 15 seconds to Mathison, Breker and Hansen over that last tenth of a mile. Hunter Jones actually hung on fairly well at the end, though, finishing as fast as Mathison (he must've taken a couple relatively easy minutes on the flat to recover from that start).

It seems like that last .107 split is a little off. Hard to believe the top finishers were only running ~5:30 pace in the finishing stretch. Similarly oddly lengthy splits on the girls’ side.

He "went for it" for 500 meters. There's a difference between going for it and watching too many Pre movies.
