Yes, even more epic, one of them falls and the other goes back to help their fellow runner get back up. I see a TV movie in the making or an after school special about true friendship!
I am surprised no one has mentioned Tuohy’s NXN win in 2019 as evidence she is gonna tough it out to win.
Her 2018 season was much more dominant which had question marks on whether or not 2019 would be her third victory.
Took it out in Valby style, conditions were TERRIBLE and was basically caught with 200 to go. And then held them off.
You could say this is evidence Valby CAN win. HOWEVER, she has never been tested like that and succeeded. Different conditions and terrain than she is used to will play a factor. Maybe she is fit enough to break the field, but another disadvantage is that she is the only one of the top contenders who has never raced this course before. I believe Mercy, McCabe, Chmiel and Tuohy all ran NCAAs in 2021. Row obviously and Cook trains on it. Honestly surprised Florida didn’t send her to one of the 3 invited they held there this year to just get a feel
Tuohy has been under the microscope since she was 15 and has continuously pulled it off. Now that she has had a few years in college, she has gone from a front runner to a kicker but don’t think that history goes away. If she is healthy and Valby(or someone else) is within reach in the final 800-1k I have a hard time believing anyone is going to outkick her. And if someone does it will be McCabe.
Also let’s not forget Mercy win on this course in a long kick!
Tuohy ftw, but I’m excited!!

I agree with this...I don't see a scenario where Valby can drop Tuohy in the first 4.5km. Tuohy may give her a few seconds, but she will not allow much of a gap. Nor do I believe that Mercy will let that happen.
This will be a 2 - 4 person race at the 4.5km mark....and then whoever has the gas for the last inclines will take it.
If I was forced to bet my life savings on someone...
I'd put my money on Tuohy.
She's not just a generational talent, she's a brilliant racer. Even at NXN in 2019, she came out *on top* despite feeling enormous pressure and having two girls at her heels.
Tuohy also has something Valby doesn't: her team. She's a huge team player and knows that her race matters most, not just for the win but for her team's win. this takes a lot of mental pressure off because she knows she's racing for something bigger than herself.
A New Yorker and now a North Carolinian, she has more experience with hills and cold weather.
there's also no weakness in a race scenario: race goes out hard, well...isn't that what she did all through high school? Finishing kick, miss 4:06 won't have an issue.
I'm also not buying that she's seriously injured. She wasn't wrapped up or limping, she was all smiles at the regional.
This is no hate to Valby or McCabe or anyone else. I'm actually really excited that the women's race is getting this much excitement around it. Should be good.
(1)Tuohy (2)Valby (3)McCabe (4)Roe (5)Cook (6) Chelengat (7)Chmiel (8)Tyynismaa
Why would there not be at least those eight people (if not most of them, plus any other wildcards) at the 4.5km mark?

Yep, and then, stepping out of the crowd, Nick Symmonds outkicks them both to the line
Better yet,.....Brendan Hebert!
How is someone a generational talent when Hutchins and Cook ran faster?
Someone from left field like a Amaris or Sam bush

UM?
and natalie cook basically set her highschool prs at a college runner age
There are a few high school boys who could play soccer and run 30 miles per week and win this race.
UGH
no marlee starliper for the third straight year coz of injuries again, i feel like they need to go to a better doctor and have like a different approach in recovering .. whatever they have been doing for 3 years aint working

H?as Tuohy raced Valby or Cook or Rowe or McCabe this year? But you see no reason that she won't win again? Those are reasons even if you think she will win.
ummm 3 out of the 4 that you mention are actually IN the videos i posted. Roe is featured breaking the tape in the first thumbnail preview and is also shown in the thumbnail behind Valby who is leading in the preview of the second video (5000 finals). so... i think both those vids are from 2022 races...
The SEC course was flat, fast and at least 200m short while the ACC course was non-stop rolling hills with patchy grass. Touhy's 12 sec gap over Chmiel at ACC's after Chmiel finished runner up to her by 5 sec (and another 8 sec back to 3rd) at Nuttycombe was impressive, as Touhy put a similar 12 secs on Chelengat at Joe Piane over 1k. I don't like comparing times, but the 19:08 at ACC's was worth more than the "18:25" at SEC's if you understand context. Like Valby's 18:58 was from another flat, fast course 30 m short (so 19:05). Probably not worth much more than Orton's 19:25 on the FSU course. A 19:30's on the OK State course would be worth much more which is what it could take to win. Did I mention the weather forecast?
I understand Valby has made improvements, but Touhy has made steady improvements every season since coming back from injury and I wouldn't be surprised if she's in better than 15:14 shape right now.
