That's the other way round. The real soccer skills both with the ball and seeing the right passes/moves/attempts you only get from years of playing, best since one's youth. As soccer is also like 20x50m sprints with jogging pauses, many soccer players (esp. midfielder) are also decent 800m (or sometimes 1500m or 400m) runners. And thus some mid-distance runners played soccer in their youth. But soccer is so hugely competitive that one will not succeed there by just running a bit better than the typical soccer player.
