Or if they substitute Chelangat a little slower. Plus athletes trend up and down. Some are running better now, some worse.
I am just trying to find some markers...2 weeks ago Bockrath of KY beat Appleton of VA at Panorma Farms (5K) by 8 seconds with Appelton running 16:32 (20:20 pace). Today Tuohy beat Appelton on the 6K course by 49 seconds. Valby beat Bockrath today by 43 seconds. Seems like same neighborhood, again maybe Valby slightly faster.
I get it. It is just super hard to find any consistency race to race. An athlete will look good one race, look worse the next. Some fall off completely by nationals. Chelangat has been a very consistent national performer, so she is a safer point of comparison.
Valby clearly is very fit as she was visibly pushing the pace almost the whole way. She never looked relaxed to me. Impressed she could do that for the whole race.

I believe the only real take-aways from this whole group of races is that Tuohy, Valby, McCabe, Roe, Mercy and Chmiel are all legit contenders. Cook seems to have dropped out of that picture. Otherwise....so hard to get any indication of comparisons due to the different courses.
Considering that Mercy lost time today in the 3 - 4 km stretch, and not the end of the race suggests (to me at least) that she possibly didn't believe Valby would be able to keep the pace up....but perhaps could have been closer in the end.
But do you want to? At some point you do one hard effort too many. If it was to avoid a kick I think her get is better than Mercy's to begin with. And how will that translate to a hilly course? So far Katelyn's races have been very controlled efforts, sitting and kicking.

I was commenting on how she looked. Agree it is not always a good idea to put the pedal to the metal the whole way. Hitting that last hill at OSU in a tired state can be bad.
Also, why does the OP say BlazerXC but it says Rojo on the index?
Maybe because Rojo changed the thread title?
I started the thread, Rojo started another one after me. I think he just merged them.
Also pretty frustrated that the thread I started became a discussion of potential PED usage. Please provide clear facts and evidence or stop speculating. Completely unfair.
Truly psycho. Times in cross dont mean much but if an ncaa women split 15:24 en route in a 6K track race that would imo make her a favorite to win NCAAs in the 5 and 10
Kelati once ran a 14:50 rated race than came in third running 15:14 at BU on the superfast track a few weeks later. I have developed a healthy disregard for time conversions. Valby should be in the 15:10-15:20 range on the track. Maybe sub 15:10 in a fast race.
