Apparently "10,000" days is the length of time between when Maynard's mother was paralyzed and when she died.

Let's give it up for the album art/construction though. That's some serious cool shit; Tool never disappoints on this front. Aenima, Lateralus, and now 10,000 Days with some dope-ass CD art.
Pitchfork Media had a review today, and All Music Guide as well.
For those of you who have been disappointed with it so far, give time for it to grow on you, like any Tool ablum. At first I was a tad disappointed, but the more I listened to it, the more it has grown on me, especially "Wings for Marie" pt1 and pt2 (10,000 days).
I'm very aware that some albums that I fall in love with absolutely blew on the first spins. The new Flaming Lips is very much like that for me. I had to give it 5 tries before finding that I really like it. But I HATED it on 1-2, then by 3 something was clicking. Funny how that happens with some music, eh?
Films are like that too.
And sometimes the opposite happens: You love it at first, then hate it!
wow...just picked it up. First off, the artwork is amazing...won't spoil the details for those who don't have it yet, but adam definitely took it to another level...VERY cool (i'm glad i bought the album rather than rip it off the net).
First four songs are straight forward tool....remind me very much of lateralus. From track 5 on though, it's a wild ride...some sticks to 'familiar good ole' tool. some (like the intro to 'the pot') blew me the f*** away! Some may definitely be turned off by it (pitchfork among them--although comparing the careers of radiohead and tool is easily the most foolish statement i can think of at the moment), but I'm impressed. Rosetta stoned is like the unfinished conclusion to the song Aenima. And 10,000 days/wings for marie tracks carry all the weight and personal torment of "jimmy".
Personal fave for me is definitely vicarious and 10,000 days....absolutely amazing track.
There are one or two tracks that I'm not fond of right now, though it will be interesting to see how my taste evolves (tool seems to have this effect on a lot of people...more so than any other band).

Oh I agree definitely... when I first heard Aenima who knows how many years ago, I wasn't too impressed (I'm currently 23). But, Tool eventually became one of my favorite bands (if not my fav) off of just that one album. Just couldn't get enough of it. Then Lateralus came out and I was seriously disappointed because it sounded too much like A Perfect Circle, which I wasn't that fond of at the time either (although, again, came to appreciate much more with time and now love also) and Lateralus just didn't rock as much as Aenima. That was initially though, and, of course, now I think it is incredible and both of the albums are among my most cherised to listen to. Tool just has it goin' on!
ps. Off topic but QOTSA are quickly becoming one of my other favorite bands... any other Tool fans feel the same about QOTSA?
