Incredible race!!! Looked like Wightman would easily take it but just had nothing the last 50m. Tim C looking great, but Hoare pushes right through the line and nips him in 3:30.12. Super fast times for the top 8.
(One guy to watch in the future is Elliot Giles--faded to 8th but was right there to 150m left. Not bad for a big 800m guy)
The announcers were treating it as a big fail for Wightman. He did great. Third in a 3:30.53. I'm glad Hoare proved me wrong. I had him picked for the win at Worlds then got off of him. I'm glad Tim got Silver. I had picked Wightman, Kerr, and Tim. I don't know what's up with Kerr but I was wrong on him all year.
Yup, got him as well. But damn it was close, one stumble as Tim tied up and that was it.
Surprisingly fast. Wightman tried the exact same move he put on Jakob but just didn't have it. Big congratulations to Oli Hoare, he's come back well from a huge disappointment
All 3 1500m medalists from 2021 placed worse in 2022. I'm content chocking it up to the normal post-Olympic year slump before I start jumping to any conclusions. I expected a bit more after that 3:48 indoors, but I'm happy to cut a bronze medalist the benefit of the doubt for a season.
Super hyped for Hoare, it's starting to seem like WCs was really just an off day at the worst time. The OAC 1500 squad is absolutely loaded now. 2 3:30 guys, CWG champ, 4th at the Olympics + Nuguse and Beamish who are known for their kicks.
Kerr treats every race like he’s in Portland. Makes unnecessary moves and wastes energy because he thinks he can. He needs to do more international racing so he knows what it’s like to race the big dogs
Jake ran slightly wider between 400m and 1200m compared to Eugene and it looks to have cost him.
But Ollie ran absolutely perfectly and deserved to win. Tim also ran a very high quality race.
And a massive shout out to Sam Tanner on his best performance ever, when it mattered.
Incredible race. We've had two memorable 1500's in two weeks.
I worried for him on the final bend. He was in lane 2 but that helped him in the end. He finished in lane 3 and Cheruiyot had made a move (either deliberate or inadvertent due to tiredness) to block him just before the line but he couldn't get across.
Kerr with DFL is an awful result. He needs something to find his mojo again. This is where coaching comes in
Holy sh*t, just seen that as well as Hoare, 5th through 11th also ran PBs. Plus, Kipsang and Cheruiyot ran SBs. 20 year-old Matt Stonier started the year with a 3:39 PB, he's now a 3:32 guy. Only Josh Kerr ran over 3:35. Ridiculous race and I take back everything I said about how bad the track is
