And what evidence do you have to make such an accusation? I've not seen any rash of injuries at NC State recently, and of the few injuries that have occurred (Chmiel with a minor injury in outdoor a few months ago), it was never blamed by anyone on high mileage. And Chmiel is now healthy again and training, as she was photographed running with the team in photos posted on the official NC State social media in the last few days.
What you are seeing at NC State is actually the opposite, IMO. Tuohy and Starliper, for example, were injured PRIOR to entering NC State and came into college injured. They were injured in high school. As Coach Henes has stated publicly many times, their policy is to ease their freshmen into collegiate training, in order to keep them healthy long term. And that's what you see with Tuohy and Starliper. They have now recovered from their injuries from high school, and are thriving in college.
Starliper struggled for 2 years just to get away from the injuries. No guarantee she will not re-injure herself as miles piles up and workouts getting harder.
I think the real point is that there are no guarantees. Elly Henes, just to name 1, seems to have done fine and continues to improve. But other athletes, at many schools, not so much. But some do fine and find the right program and training.
actually seymour is faster than starliper, but yea its not only either of them but BOTH of them should step it up and hopefully can have their best run at the most important race of the season, kelsey and katelyn cannot do it all, evident by the results yesterday, kelsey and katelyn went 1-2 yet it was not enough to have a lower score than NM
also, i may have expected a lot more from sam bush yesterday, she looked strong with the front pack until she didnt and fell back to the second pack, hopefully it was just a bad day for her and sydney~~~~
katelyn and kelsey needs all the help, NM out there just keep getting better AS A TEAM. i love katelyn's response to the results, watch it here
Katelyn Tuohy, a sophomore, and junior Kelsey Chmiel took the top two spots in the women's 6-kilometer championship race at the 13th Nuttycombe Wisconsin Cross Country Invitational at the Thomas Zimmer Championship course in...
Last year NCSt did not run as well at Nuttycombe as Nationals. The way their season is scheduled Nuttycombe is their first 6km race. It is a way to highlight any adjustments they need to make.
nc state also aims to peak at nationals thats why theres no all-out performance from any of the runners, and nc state is still running high mileage, they drop the high mileage only during championship season.. i remember hannah steelman saying they ran 15 miles at nuttycombe last year, the next morning of the race.
altho sam and syd falling that much after being at front was unexpected but sam bounced back and finished 18th, same place as last year.
What's with these interviewers? Horrendous. Obviously on the spectrum stuttering and can't get his words out, but ASK A QUESTION AND LET THE ATHLETE ANSWER, don't try and show off your knowledge of the sport and/or assume intent or anything. Love the eye rolls from the girls. Amazed they have to sit through this behavior.
lol, i guess thats just how he talks?? and thats literally what old people are, they like to show off their knowledge lmao... it took 40+ seconds for katelyn to be able to say a word lol
For those who like data, the below shows the NM improvement from Joe Piane to yesterday
If you look at NC State, NM, the top 2 OR St runners, and several other high placed runners as a group they averaged 3:55 slower for the longer (6K vs 5K) and hillier course yesterday. In past years similar groups ranged from 3:45 to 4:00 so it is consistent. Tuohy was right at the average with 3:54 (19:44 vs 15:50). 4 NM runners (Dishon, Thorner, Larkin, Mazza-Downie) were only 3:45 though. Heckel was right with Tuohy at 3:53. Mitchell of OR St was 3:51. However, Bush was 4:00 Seymour was 4:06. That is the swing. Whether it was just their good or bad day, or the additional 1K, or more hills is the question.
This is consistent with what I see on LACCTiC which shows accross the board NM improved their rating from Joe Piane, while NC St got slightly lower ratings.

For me, his interviews are hard to listen to, and I don't think that effective. He tends to almost give them the answer he is looking for in the (long winded) question he poses. But I guess that is just his style. I prefer Doug Binder. I don't think it is an age thing.
It was not blazing fast but it wasn't that slow either. They were within 10 seconds of the pace at FSU last November at 3K. The 4K split was maybe 15 s or so slower though. But I do wonder about that split as per the times given they ran faster from 4K to 5K (3:00) than Tuohy ran from 5K to 6K (3:10) which just does not seem to agree with my eyes. For semi, Tuohy blew open the race on a hill at 4.8K in which going into the hill there was about 10 runners or so pretty bunched and coming out of the hill at 5K that same group was strung out over 30-40 m. The other 18 minutes of the race were largely inconsequential although Tuohy continued to accelerate, and Chmiel tried to stay close to her.
For semi, here are screenshots of the leaders at 4.7K and 5K. I asked Runnerspace for permission but no reply yet. I am have to take them down if they object. Hopefully 2 "photos" I could have taken if I was there are ok.
OK State left out their top 3 at Weis-Crockett Invite but still did well, with FR Billah Jepkirui (15th/20:44 at Cowboy) having an outstanding race, winning by 7 seconds in 20:15. Stephanie Moss (SO, 47th/21:17) was 9th in 20:55, Sivan Auerbach (SO, 40th/21:10 at Cowboy) 18th in 21:16. So they've got a pretty killer top 4 in Cook, Roe, Jepkirui, and Hentemann. They probably won't win unless Moss or Auerbach improve as much as Jepkirui just did, but should be fun to see.

Semi pretty sure ALL the top programs get up and run 12-15 the day after a race.. (especially a Friday race) not unique to NC state. All the programs are still in their high mileage stages as well.. coach Henes is good/great but not re inventing the wheel by any means
