Adderall isn’t performance enhancing for distance runners. Why would one wish to elevate their HR before running. Marathoners train to lower their HR. She won a medal without a TUE stick with what works. It’s not like she has to study for engineering classes.
This is something I was curious about. How is that drug a performance enhancer, particularly for a marathoner? It keeps them awake during their long-runs??

It makes sense that they'd select D'Amato since she's been so great lately. But if they went by the selection criteria they originally announced (based on placement in one of last year's major marathons), it would've been Nell Rojas (4th in Boston last year). I hope she's not too upset by this.
I feel badly for Molly reading all about this. However, what bothers me is why a doctor would prescribe Adderall? Both Molly, Dr. and her team must have known this med is banned. The med is highly addictive, you become dependent very fast. Maybe she thought she could use it just for out of competition? I am an educator, and this med is prescribed with extreme caution for ADHD now, as there are now other medications with less severe side-effects.
What sort of educator are you?
There are certainly non-stimulant alternatives to Adderall but as far as stimulants for adults with ADHD the amphetamines are the gold standard. Could Molly have played it safe and gone with something like Strattera? Probs. Would it be as effective as Adderall? No.

It doesn't make sense that you would expect USATF to behave rationally and transparently. D'Amato is a Nike athlete, Rojas is not. Only one way it was ever going to go.

My mistake -- as someone else corrected, Rojas only came in 6th in Boston while D'Amato got 4th in Chicago. I think I mixed it up because objectively Rojas' was very likely the stronger performance (considering both time and course). But yes, USATF actually is following their original criteria here, so I retract this previous comment (why don't these forums allow you to delete/edit a post??)

Why is it so hard for everyone to get the simple fact that people often go off label with their meds? The concern is that it could be abused for performance enhancement. The question is whether or not Molly would use it only during certain times where she felt like she needed a boost.
There is something off about Molly Seidel...how do you fracture ribs and now tailbone doing distance training? Is she being abused?
There’s definitely something going on, but my guess is that it’s likely an osteoporosis situation rather than an abuse situation. It truly sounds like Molly is struggling and though as elite as she is, it may be in her best interests to step away from professional running for a bit.
If her physical and now mental health are suffering, I’d imagine it would only get tougher to control from here. She’s been open with her eating disorder struggles, but if she gets a TUE for her now ADHD, then that could open a whole new line of physical problems. ADHD medications are notorious for weight loss and lack of sleep which wouldn’t help her as a pro. Best wishes to Molly.
The pelvic stress fracture doesn’t surprise me. Relatively common in pro marathoners. (It was the reason Meb had a terrible race at the OT Marathon in 2008… he was misdiagnosed and ran on it). I heard her in a podcast interview say she broke her rib in a fall while running on icy terrain in the winter. Nothing out of the ordinary.
The ‘simple fact’ some of us are trying to understand is whether it actually boosts or is a detriment to performance. Is the stuff stronger than Red Bull? Considerably? Does Red Bull boost performance?

The Letsrun boomer fear of Adderall is laughable. For people with genuine ADHD symptoms it causes significant relief on a PERSONAL level, not athletic. Letsrun upvoting a “educator” (middle school aide/xc coach maybe?) and downvoting psychiatrist about what meds are prescribed for ADHD is just peak letsrun hilarity. Every time I think this site gets a bad rap a thread pops up like this that goes beyond parody. Molly’s health is more important that running and her running achievements are 1000x those of anyone on these boards but people come here to get that little dopamine rush of criticizing someone who is better at their favorite sport than they could’ve been with rocket roller skates tied to their feet. If you’re on letsrun bitching about Molly Seidel pursing a TUE or speculating about her health without any inside info - YOU should see a psychiatrist.
