No we are not. I’m just saying it’s pretty obvious of who makes NXN. Newbury Park, great oak and Granada will be hard to beat by any other team. And all 3 are some of the best teams in the nation so whoever gets third gets an at-large. It’s obvious that Buchanan is the best team in the region on the girls side because they lost no one. And got second at nationals. Great Oak lost nobody either. When I looked at the merged state meet results I was surprised that both Granite Bay and Campolindo were ahead of Great Oak and all 3 of these teams return all scorers. But then I realized that Great oak was missing someone from the state meet. I do think that it’s hard to think that Newbury Park girls team is better than Granite bay and campolindo because of how much Newbury park lost. Also, people forget that great oak’s Nathan Lennox (the guy who ran a 15:27 5K in 2020 and was also the best nonsenior that year) returned to the team. He did not run last year but this year at the time trial he was their #3 guy. So the 3 spots that were left after people graduated were filled in very nicely.
Granite Bay got 3rd at the Oakmont Invitational. They were missing a scorer but so was everyone else.
Yeah we can assume that Torrey pines is out of the picture now.
Santiago Corona was only 2 points behind Great Oak at cool breeze and Le Canada and Torrey Pines weren’t far behind either.
Sophia grant from Newbury won the varsity race which might tell me that she could be up there with Hawkins and Sax, or at least not far behind them. They also have Brotcke who ran in the low 5s in the 1600 which showed improvement from her. Haven’t seen track results from Spaulding but if she stays with their #4, Newbury should win state again.

Did Brotcke improve significantly? She ran a 5:11.18 mile in 2021 and a 5:07.46 mile in 2022. XC may not be her strength.
And San Clemente lost to 2 unranked teams (Trabuco hills and Redondo union). I think Trabuco hills should really be on there. They are also a really young team that has a shot at NXN next year when NP will be down and Great Oak loses a lot
Dev Doshi beats Aaron Sahlman, and behind the Youngs by only 11 seconds. No showing of Hector Martinez or Samantha Spaulding Schohn ran the 7th fastest time. My, the competition for the 7th spot is getting intense if Hector doesn’t come back! Porter was like a minute behind Schohn. Dickran #1 freshman. Watson #1 soph but 3 9th graders were better than him. Schohn’s 3 mile was only 18 seconds slower than Cantu’s. Only 1 senior on np JV and he didn’t start.

The NP top five look set with L & L, Doshi, AS, and Seymour, though not necessarily in that order. Cantu should be #6 but the youngsters can possibly close the gap so there will be competition for 6th and 7th.

The competition for the 7th spot seems to happen every year at np.
Without Samantha Spaulding, the 4-5 gap on the girls side is huge
