Not entirely true, when I was a little kid I fantasized about having 100-800m range. I already liked the idea of trail running though
Then I assume you were not fast enough to be a sprinter. I don't mean this disparaging at all. If you were one of the fastest kids yet longed to be a great 800 meter runner as an elementary school kid I think you are a rare exception.
I believe any middle distance or distance runner, as a kid, if one of the fastest kids around, will not long to move up to the mile. Most see what the top sprinters do as 'easy' training as well as attention gaining. Anyone who knows the sport realizes sprint training is not 'easy' just different needing full recovery for most.
Again, as a young kid I would knock on the door of a buddy, ask if he wanted to play basketball. He would agree and say "beat you there" and we took off sprinting. I do not remember any friends saying "yes, let's run a three mile loop and I will get there before you." In my experience, being the fastest at most anything is a basic characteristic for young kids.

To think you may actually believe people will buy into this bs. People are not that dumb.
So you would approach your friend to play basketball and you would challenge each other who would get there first? Was your court 50 meters away? Lol. Did you also crouch down and give it your all for 5-10 seconds? I know you didn't. You RAN. You ran for half a mile to a mile or more. So, many kids indeed do this and they race to a particular location and it's an average of one mile away. This is what comes naturally to kids. You're right on one thing. Kids do want to be the fastest at most anything. From 1 foot to infinity. The problem with the people that end up with just short sprinting are massively handicapped. They can only be good at .001% of distances, while people focusing on being the fastest in every way are faster than sprinters in 99.99% of distances. You're welcome
Not true, ever since i started training years ago i noticed the difference between hard work that distance runners do and mediocore work that sprinters do.
i only wanted to be a sprinter when i was a kid that didn't know anything about the sport.
As I grew and saw the clear picture, man i dont wanna be part of the posers(sprinters) crew even if it could get me more recognition.
Walking around track shirtless, doing 60m sprints, resting for 4 minutes, i mean come on man whats the pride in that?
Sprinters are born. Not made. Anyone can be a long distance runner. Not everyone can be a sprinter. To be a sprinter, you are part of an exclusive club which you wish you could be a part of. Sour grapes and jealousy sounds like to me.

They are most certainly made. It takes quite a drug cocktail to make a successful sprinter. Anyone can be a sprinter but not everyone can be a long distance runner. You sound butthurt that someone called out your sport for what it is. A farce. A club? A club of good for nothing tweetledums maybe.
Do sprinters have two brain cells to rub together?
I'd rather be a pro Cornhole player vs sprinter
You are missing the point.
As a kid, if you are fast enough to be one of the best 100 runners, you are. Everyone else moves their sites to 200. If you are fast enough to be one of the best 200 runners, you are. Everyone else........400, 800, mile, 2 mile, 5K, 10K, half marathon, marathon, ultra.
Every kid would be whatever the shortest distance could provide significant success.
As adults other factors come into play but it primarily reverts back to this.

Dude, sprinters are not made, that s why we see so many fast little black kids doing this..
Anyone can be a sprinter but not everyone can be a long distance runner.
You’re kidding right? It’s the exact opposite
Are you kidding? No it's the way it is. Humans developed into runners to be able to chase down pray. If you're a "sprinter" type you're lasting about 15 seconds. No food in belly. Goodbye

My man, why not talk about something you actually know about, this obviously isn't it.
What would this be? Just some random ghetto kids running around. It's what they do. Normal kids do all distances but the real distances that matter are longer. Mike is the gold standard. If you're not good enough you go longer or shorter

Dude, the distance events will be held in a stadium across town, the sprints and hurdles in this stadium, Now which stadium will have the most fans in attendance?

Watched the Oslo DL. When sprints are on it's pretty quiet. Some clapping. When the mile was on it was pandemonium and race didn't even start yet. Sprints lose
Apparently you don't go to track meets. Not even close at all, fans show up for speed not and around and around and around they go, and you have to be told this?
Speed rules that is why we all know who Jesse Owens was, who won the mile at those Olympics?
