That kid saw Flatt's interview before the race and said helllll naw lol
He would have had it if he didn’t have to run wide on the second turn to get around the other guy who had no business going out in 1:51.x. Fanastic run nonetheless.

Id think the self-proclaimed “greatest of all time” should be able to handle someone going out in front of him.

A highschooler who ran 1:53 and had just as much right as anyone else in the *race* to run how he wanted? If Flatt wanted to have absolute control over if anyone could be near him, I'm sure that he could've found somewhere that would let him run a time trial.

Agreed. It's a race, not a sub 2 marathon style time trial. Webb ran 3:53 while racing in a pack the whole way. Cade had to pass one dude on a curve...in a race.
Lol right. 800m requires speed endurance and a lot of strength do it require to do solid volume to run sub 1:50. I would say you need at least 25 miles per week easily.
although I think he could have gotten the record with a less aggressive pacing I think going out in 51 prepares him better for the US trials. no doubt he gets the record and less the trials rounds are extremely tactical I going out in 54)55
Flatt looks like a junior in college. Also, kids are obsessed with lying about mileage. Every kid wants to be labeled as “talented” rather than “hard worker” because “talented” label makes people say things like “imagine how good they could be if…” whereas the latter makes people say “they probably won’t improve much”
For what it’s worth, I’m a college distance coach who started recruiting Cade early in his junior year of HS. Per my notes on our first phone call, which lasted about 40 minutes, he said he was doing 30-40 miles per week during the track season.
Keep in mind that this guy is also an elite miler and competed in XC races. I’m assuming it’s just a troll or psychological game saying he runs so little, because there wouldn’t have been any reason to lie about that unprompted when we talked.
There’s no possible way to get elite 800m training on 5 miles per week, not even from a pure sprinter 400m type background. I trained with a 1:45 guy in college, and I’ve worked with pro 800m runners who competed at USAs and the Trials. Never heard of anything less than 15mpw, and even those guys had world class sprint speed to fall back on… Cade is closer to an 800/1500 guy than he is a 400/800 guy.
Once again, a very blatant troll that is working as planned: you guys are turning his jokes into him becoming Paul Bunyan.
