What do you consider very good then? The OP wasn't very specific - "elite". I don't think I had amazing talent, but, like I said, I saw enough to believe I had talent to go sub-29, but someone else might see sub-30 and put that person in the elite corral of a road race. I didn't have a great kick, but if I was somehow younger now and living/training in Japan, I could see myself as one of the dozens of anonymous guys that run 62 half marathons.
Switching to people I know, a kid I helped coach had talent to be pro. But he went to Cal.
