Here's the current All Time 2 mile HS list from T&FN. Note that it includes converted 3200 times from Sahlman and Fernandez (with the "+"). From a purist perspective, I understand your point. If anyone breaks 8:33.3 tomorrow night, they'll be the new 3200 national record holder. Given the 3 second conversion, if anyone breaks 8:26.4, they will be the new 2 mile / 3200m national record holder. You may not like it, but it will be recognized by most as the new 2M record.
