Two things can be true simultaneously, but I see a lot of arguments here that he is just lucky. I don't think there's much luck involved at all.
He’s luckier than any coach in any HS sport in history. His situation is like a basketball coach having 4-5 future NBA HOF players on one team.
It's unlikely that all 4 of the Newbury Park boys will end up in the track and field hall of fame.
Having said that, yes, there is some luck involved in getting 4 guys at the same time who have the physical talent to run a mile in around 4 minutes.
But he's also a very good coach. His 5th best guy finished 9th in the state in cross country. And his 6th and 7th runners would be the top runner on 95% of high school cross country teams.

No, his 5th best guy was 7th. His “6th” best guy was 9th.
I'm willing to bet the three Newbury juniors break 4 this season. Arcadia's gonna be lit. Let's hope Brosnan puts them all in the 3200 and doesn't let Aaron do the mile again. And yes that is the second fastest junior mile after Ryun's sub 4. Bernie Montoya ran 4:01.32 his junior year, and Reinhardt Harrison ran 4:01.34 his sophomore year. Those were the second and third fastest underclassman times in US prep history. Although Reinhardt Harrison did run 4:06 in 20mph winds at the beginning of his junior year, before losing the rest of his season to injury. That puts him up in the 4 flat to sub 4 range imo.
is aaron’s time a junior hs record?
i think brandon mcgorty was a junior when he ran 1:48.58
More like 99.9% bro. Maybe Doshi wouldn't be the fastest guy on every of Cali or Texas school, but out in the sticks there are a lot more highschools than you realize. Doshi had the 113th fastest XC time this year, and the 31st fastest indoor 2 mile.
There are almost 24,000 highschools in the US. And that's just the public ones.
Truly amazing what Brosnan has done with that program, to have his 7th man, a sophomore, be better than almost any other schools fastest man, and even school record

Before this year, there were 12 HS runners in history to break 4:00 and only one in California. Almost all great HS distance runners just don’t have the top-end speed to break 4:00 and magical coaching won’t change that. Do you believe that Brosnan could have trained Ritz or Salazar to run sub-4:00 in HS?

The Newbury coach also had 4 girls run 2:08 in the 800m and 4:58, 4:55, 4:55 in the Full mile last night.

There are actually 8 guys on the team who have a faster PB than Doshi’s 4:19.24 (1600m). So he is technically the 9th guy at the mile on the team.
Cantu ran 4:17.58 last year and Blunt ran 4:19.22 this weekend.
How many guys with sub 4:20 (1600m) PBs do/did you have on your HS team?

Maybe not.
But on the other hand do you think that an average high school coach would have the 4 top Newbury Park boys all close to 4 minute miles? Of course not.

How many schools have 5 sub 4:20 milers this year?
Imagine runniog 4:04 for the mile and being the 4th man on your team.
Imagine being able to run a mile in around 4:12 and not being on your team's 4x800, 4xMile, or DMR.
I think you're talking about Daniel Appleford. He's a very good runner (also 8:56 for 3200 last year), but he's not discussed at all due to the NP 4. The guy that I wonder about is Adam Olsen, NP senior, who ran 1:54.83 last night. From what I've read he's a soccer guy who just came out this year. He probably hasn't had time to build an aerobic base. Will he run in college?

Every single one of them was a middle school stud, most running into the low 4:40’s. How many 4:45 8th grade milers did you have on your high school team? Not 10? Don’t most high school teams have 10 kids on their team that ran that fast in middle school?

No question that having youth track clubs in the area greatly helps. But other states have them as well. However, that area of suburban L.A./Ventura County has a long tradition of interest in middle distance and distance running.
The obsession the running world has with Newbury Park (which really boils down to two families) is absurdly unhealthy and misguided in this essay I will
