I'll just discuss some of the girls that I've seen run
Denner, 14
Hays good, not great at accs.... 12
Chemiel, same, 7
Tuohy, surging, 3, will outkick mercy
Mercy, will push the pace but get out kicked and finish 4th
Gregory, 2nd
Wayment, depending on how much the DMR takes out of her she will either win it or get out kicked by Gregory
so help me out. Is this the 5,000? It has to be as Denner is not in 3,000. Pretty much makes sense to me except 5,000 is before the DMR! Slow pace favors Gregory, fast pace favors Chelangat and Wayment (if she is ok - last month she has looked less unbeatable). Agree Tuohy can finish way higher than her 15th seed time.
Yeah that makes more sense! I guess they close out day one with the d m r. I guess I was thinking about conference championships. Anyway in that case I don't think anyone can hang with wayment. But who Nose? How did some of the runners I didn't mention do at conference championships? Any of them surging like touE?
Not so much surging but a number of the mid 15:30s seeds got their times on Feb 11. Of those, maybe watch Jenna Magness as she did it by herself I think.
Tuohy, is laser-focused on the 5K, she won't be hedging her effort for the 3K
I have no knowledge, but I would think if she was not fit for a good 5K they would have scratched to keep her fresh for 3K - and they didn't - so I would agree with you.
I predict that Tuohy finishes 9th in 5k and regrets not running the DMR. Coaching staff looks silly.
more like katelyn tuohy hammering her pr and getting on the podium
I think so too. I think Katelyn and Kelsey are going to work together through most of the race, and they are going to crush it.KT looked awesome at ACC, strong and smooth in her finish. I think she is capable of running quite a bit faster than the 15:41 at ACC's judging by how much she seemed to have left.
Judging by every interview I have watched of Laurie Henes discussing her coaching techniques, if Katelyn Touhy runs the 3K and/or 5K instead of the distance medley it is because that is what she chose to do. She is a smart kid, and if she is choosing this route she has her reasons.
Regardless of who wins, it is probably going to be a good race!
The OP started this thread for predictions but it turned into people vaguely pontificating about the races. It always turns that way when Tuohy is involved. It isn't going to affect the outcome of the race if the posters list some firm predictions.

I'm having a tough time making a firm prediction, because many of the fast qualifying times were in early December right after CC and before a significant break over the holidays. Not all, but a lot of the runners entered have not run very close to their fast early December time since then, and many of them have not raced much at all. That makes it hard to get a gauge on where some of the top contenders are at right now. I commented on Touhy because ACC's was the first time we have seen her race in a while, and rumor had it she was down with injury. Seeing her run made me think it is possible that her injury cleared up a while ago and she has been training and not racing just because she didn't really need to. She does not look at all compromised, and could possibly surprise everyone.
But then again, there are quite a few other fast runners who could surprise as well.
I think if KT and Kelsey Chmiel work together and stay smart either of them could win the 5K, but if Wayment is healthy and "on" I think she will win. She is a senior, and I believe this will be her last meet for BYU, so there will be that "this is my last chance" mentality that will give her a mental edge along with her speed. Kind of like how Orton took charge in CC nationals. That is just my 2 cents.
my predictions for women’s 5k falling into 4 groups…
group 1 - Wayment, Gregory, Tuohy, Chmiel. Wayment is still running well but 9 flat for 9th at usa indoors and 4:33 for 6th in a field with collegians leave some question marks of if she’s fit enough for top 3. I’m going to give her the benefit of the doubt w her 15:13 and 8:50 this season that she’ll pull out the W. Gregory is extremely consistent, and the sec meet saw her close in 30 multiple times, she always factors. Same with Chmiel, who is a gamer at national championships. She didn’t win acc’s, but she ran 4:35 which is an improvement for her. If it goes out hard it favors her much more than if it’s slow. If it’s slow, I don’t think she’ll be top five. Tuohy ran the American U20 3k national record in December, running 8:53 but getting burned a bit at the end. Since then she hadn’t raced till ACCs, and while the time doesn’t seem like she will factor her last 1600 was 4:48, 400 66 and 200 32, looking smooth the whole way. I think she will fight for top three here. group 2- covert, magness, Cohen, chelangat (which may be a hot take I know how impressive she can be but as of late isn’t wowing me)
Am I going to the wrong place to find heat sheets for the 800 & miles? Certainly they are out by now. The NCAA Championship site still shows nothing under "start list". Any clues?

My timing is impeccable. The heats came out almost the moment I posted this. There is even another thread providing links.
I mean 9th is pretty good. Not sure why that got such a heated reaction. Anyway I think she'll do a little better but who knows. Wayment has to be the favorite. Does anybody know who is going to double with the DMR and who is not
9th in the country is pretty good, getting to nationals is already good .. but katelyn tuohy just won acc 5k easily with her 32s kick ..you are underestimating what she can do with a newly developed kick... counting her out seem normal here .. people always do it but she always prevails and always sets fastest time of her class and crushes the predictions of the naysayers on here
Just for the record Tuohy does not have the fastest 3K time of her class!
She has the U20 record. And those others are not running this weekend. When other athletes in her category and age group start having the results to warrant it, especially at nationals, by all means talk about them.
On the topic, I stand by my three picks. The winners tend to skew older. Not sure why people are writing off Chelengat. Based on the venue I thought her indoor 5000 time was pretty good.
But the fact is that she doesn't have the fastest 3k time in her class. He was merely correcting the incorrect statement. Justifying a fact is unnecessary. Not being able to acknowledge a fact is a problem.

I give semihaze a pass on this one. He (She? They?) did not say she has the fastest time in her class, but rather "but she always prevails and always sets fastest time of her class". She has not done it yet this year, but the year is not over.
