Didn't read through the entire thread, but one thing they aren't doing is the CIF postseason.
Not a fan of how CIF structures their postseason with so many rounds to get to State, but also not a fan of throwing a State Championship away.
All around a bad situation for the CA State Meet; bad scheduling and now the best hs distance team in the history of the country won't be attending.
You should check their schedule: SCHEDULE | NPHS T&F Website (nphstf.org)
It would be hard to believe that the AD or other school administrators would allow the NP 4 to bypass CIF competition. If the CIF state meet in XC was good enough for the team why wouldn't the CIF state meet in T&F? They all represent NPHS, not their individual desires. As far as what they're planning to do that's hard to say. Will Brosnan have them train through the earlier qualifying races? Will he have the NP4 double up with hopes of winning the state title? We shall see...
NOTE: Although Newbury Park is ranked atop Division 1 in the boys rankings, we do believe they will bypass the postseason in favor of competing in unattached meets here and across state lines rather than going through the multiple rounds in hopes of competing at the state meet. The plan could change, but at this time it appears they will not compete in the CIF-SS postseason. However, we do list them here in the preseason based on their excellent point-scoring projections.
As the head track coach at NP, does he attend the CIF meets or meets where his unattached runners compete?
Can you imagine a basketball coach who teaches at and is paid by the high school, where the team attends school and practices every day, not compete for the school, but compete in AAU games instead?
Is the AD, other track coaches and the track team themselves OK with this?

Have you heard of NXN, New Balance National, Nike Nationals, Footlocker? Those are the same thing as an open meets. And yes in Track many head coaches attend open races all there time.
The CIF does not own the athletes or coaches. The athletes can race whatever they want and choose to skip the CIF championship or state championship if they like.

Aren’t NXN, Nike Nationals, Footlocker, etc on top of and after the school teams’s state meets, not instead of?
California does permit it. CIF is just the governing body for HS athletes. Nothing less, nothing more.
There have been a few times I can remember that California athletes have chosen to skip the CIF state meet in order to race something more beneficial.
The individual athlete chose to do it or the coach (again, paid by the school) took athletes to race something more beneficial for the individual athlete?

It’s post season. The kids can choose to do what they want. They have no obligations. Same with a coach. Especially if all the kids that would qualify for post season choose not to race any CIF meets. Then why would a coach be there ?
It's post season as in "playoffs", not post season as in "after the season".
The coach has no obligation to do his best for the school? Then why are they paying him to coach? If he's coaching individuals, the individuals pay him, not the school. What am I missing here?

both.
Really? where do teams choose one of these meets instead of competing for their HS? I’m not talking about an individual, but when and where has a coach and the team skipped their state meet to compete in one of those meets?

It's the kids choice, not the coach in HS. If the kids don't want to race because they have other opportunities thats great.
You're trying to put the blame on the coach here. It has nothing to do with the coach. If the kids want to race out of state during CIF they can do whatever they want. As they should. It's about the kids and letting them do whats best for them.

Do you know this for a fact? looking at the note on prepcaltrack, it sure sounds like the team’s choice. so, if the coach chooses to attend one of the meets his unattached runners compete at instead of the high school team’s CIF playoff meets, you still think it’s all good and normal?
you absolutely must either be the coach or someone in the Young or Sahlman family.

They can do what they want. They have opportunities that not many HS kids ever get. I think the CIF will live without them.
They will be at the State meet. Don't be so quick to believe some random person on here. The schedule on their website has CIF State meet listed on it.

That makes sense. It seems to me that if you are competing for the NPHS track team you are expected to represent the school in the designated season, which runs through the CIF state meet (assuming you qualify through all the rounds). The coach should have the discretion regarding which events to enter or not aside from the meets that determine state meet qualification. So if Brosnan wants to hold his NP4 out of the dual meets and have other kids run, giving some kids opportunities that they might not otherwise have, fine. If he wants to take his team to non CIF sanctioned events, like Penn Relays, fine. But once all the meets that determine state meet qualification kick in they should all be expected to be there.
It "only" took 8:47 (Nico) and 4:08 (Strangio) to win it the last time it was held (2019) so they might have to bring their own competition but they will be there.

I think you're missing the point. You can't do those other big meets like Penn and the CIF races at the same time. They will have to choose. They have to race five weeks straight for the CIF - State Championships and that will take them away from Penn and other races.
It makes no sense for them. It's better for them to move on and race in competitive races. Normally HS athletes would just do their state championships, but they are not your normal High School runners. Why not just let the kids have better opportunities.

The don't have to "race" any of them in CIF until State. They could cruise through the rounds or use them as tune-ups. I don't know the dates of all the other meets you think they are doing to know it they conflict or not. But I am sure there are plenty of things to do after the CIF State meet.
