I don't really understand it, but ever since the new message board style got rolled out, the amount of extremely misinformed people has skyrocketed. Is it easier to register now? Easier to post?
Like, I know there's a lunatic fringe here in the States, but it's an extreme minority in terms of size. It's pretty clear however that it's very overrepresented here, which means either they're trolls with no life, trolls with an agenda, or running for whatever reason attracts the dumbest idiots possible.
Speaking for myself, I use down votes now and make fewer replies to a misinformed posts. The misinformed posters vote people down and also make posts. They are the overly vocal minority on these boards they have always been.
As someone who actually lived before the internet, we always suspected our neighbors and friends might be dumb and gullible in their unvoiced thoughts, but social media has not only confirmed but put it on display on a constant basis.
