Haha. If we can get on a triller undercard that would be great. Seem to pay well those boys.
I as well like reading the posts. Fair play to you!

both MexToGo and the Oasis are gone. What is your opinion on the lamentable state of Menlo Park dining establishments

must be a slow news day, doug. for both of us--you for starting a thread, me for responding.
i don't care about the past--what i'd really like to see is a cage match between you and the 4:02 guy who also started a thread answering questions recently...
love,
cush
p.s. have you ever $#!+ in a compression sock?
I am now honored by a legends presence! A cage match would be awesome! I have no tattoos, piercings, or muscles to speak of but of course I would dominate. He is a 4:02 guy! The moment he gets in the ring he asks for my autograph and I clock him and win.
And the second question? Of course I have. I then sell them on a fetish website. This is a safe environment, you can admit you are one of my buyers!
Love always

Why didn't your parents name you Wayne or Gordie?[/quote]
I was so ugly when I was born, my mom said “ go dig a whole in the backyard “ to my dad so they could throw me in there. My dad came back and said “ dug” but right as he did the neighborhood priest walked in and said, “ so his name is Doug”. My parents were so ashamed at their Thoughts and the obvious magical religious intervention they decided to keep me and change my name to Doug.
My given names had been Johnny Holmes Consiglio originally.

Happy Bday stud. I've really enjoyed scrolling through this thread.
You or fellow Canadian and hog Graham Hood in a mile in both of your primes? You were before my time, but he was not and I spent more college races I'd care to relive watching him close out 1500s (or 1600s @ Penn DMR) from well behind. Dude was a freak. I did get the better of him on the golf course a few times though :-)
Hood takes me to the cleaners 9 times out of 10 ( and he got tripped in that 10th one). The guy was top 10 NCAA cross country in the fall and then ran on Arkansas’ 4x400m that spring. How do you beat that? Now on the basketball court. Think of me as Jordan and him as spud webb.
It looks as if your thread will reach 100 posts. Which means more to you, getting to 100 posts or the first time you successfully used the bathroom on your own (even if that was recent)? And Happy Birthday!
Hi Mr. Consiglio
dc,
Great thread and as many have noted, enjoying the humor. Have to jump in ask the important questions:
-What was the workout Coach MacDonald (to the rest of us) had you do to get you ready to peak? So a main stay workout in May or early June.
-What Car did you drive in College, and first car you bought?
-Did we ever race against each other?

What! Well, actually good news about the Oasis as Jamie Harris and I ran up a $714 bar bill there after nationals in Palo Alto in 2003. So I am off the hook for that now. . Please please don’t tell me the Nut House is gone too?
Any interesting international racing stories? Chasing race directors for winnings or other related?

Well, first off I can only count to 10. After that no more fingers. Duh!! We call it a washroom up here. What is a bathroom? I take showers or hot tubs. Baths? That’s for marathoners.
I have a Jim Spivey story. I was in London on a run in some huge park with a track, late 80s. Jim spivey was doing a track workout as we ran by. I thought he was a club level sprinter, meaning in England, a pretty good sprinter, but not world class. Guy I was running with said, that’s Jim Spivey. I thought, wow, he’s got great sprinter-like stride.
Then, serveral years later I raced Jim Spivey in Roveretto, Italy in a packed 1500m. It was two rows on the start line. Matt Guiisto and Cush were in the race. Guistto looked petrified before the race which surprised me. I started a row behind him. I remember clearly his name was on the heel tab of his nike spikes. Jim Spivey crushed us all. Cush was maybe 4 or 5th. I think I was 6th or 7th and never got my time or actual finishing place. I was probably close to my best time or even beat it, but I’ll never know. It was never posted and I never saw any results. Guisto was behind me, which surprised me too. He was way better than me.
I never raced Doug though. Hey Doug, did you ever do Commonwealth games?

Also, hog size?

Hi Mr. Consiglio
Nobody calls me Mr. except my bookie, parole officer, counselor and wealth management guy ( Gerry O’Reilly, yes all that money is mine ).
I raced you in Kitchener Ontario in a league meet in 1978 or 79. I ran 2:08 for 800 and you did about 2:05. Do you remember it?

Ha. Dude had some serious range no doubt. I enjoyed watching him finish as I rounded the steeple pit. I think he also played hoops in HS, although I don't doubt your claim. Cheers and thanks for the laughs.
Maybe he meant to say he is 335 years old ask him anything

Well now this post has reached a level definitely not worthy of my doing. So, Jim, you got that PayPal transfer I sent you to make you comment?
Mac would have us do a ladder.
1600m on down to 200m for the studs. I would start at the 1200m due to my lack of strength. Kim MacDonald copied it later. We really had no “ staple “ workouts. I have my old workout books from The John Days if you are curious. I was never really into workouts, I just did them. Hard to remember, but they are all written down.
Volkswagen rabbit. Then a couple of Fiat 124 spiders and an alpha Romeo graduate convertible. I like sports cars. I have two 911s now. Why two people say? Why not!
I would be surprised if we never raced. I was smart enough to avoid all those world championships and Olympic finals you made, but surely somewhere.
NYC summer games of 89? Pre mile 1988? Cologne 88?
Probably one of those many road miles they had back then ( Toronto, Phoenix, Austin, etc). I think I remember playing cards with you and Dave Campbell in Cologne in 88 and going out after a road mile for Franks birthday with you in some town…But a long time ago.
I do remember you backed out of the Jenner / Pepsi meet in San Jose in 89 and they then desperately needed someone quickly to run whom had Grand Prix standard ( or they would lose Grand Prix status).
You told them to call me and then told me to ask for a ton of $$$ as the only other option was to get someone from Europe and the race was the next day. The meet director said all I had to do was finish. Massive pay day for me thanks to you. I should probably have tipped you!
Thanks Jim. Stay safe.

Yes, TONS! But those involve beers and need to be told in person. Besides all my European stories pale in comparison to Peter Stubbs stories

In 79 I couldn’t run that fast. No way. I was a freshman. I ran 9:27 3k, 4:28 1500m and 2:12 800m. You must be thinking of Gladwell whom not only had better hair than me, but was also infinitely smarter.
