Yes the "Variety" opinion piece that says next to nothing about music and rants about the "right winger" politics of Nugent for 99% of the article is TOTALLY not political.
You're a GD moron... lol...
Nugent has been making the same point forever. If it a group/artist isn't rock'n'roll or foundational to rock'n'roll he doesn't think they should be in the ROCK'N'ROLL Hall of Fame.
His musical position is apolitical and perfectly reasonable.
But to idiots like you I guess nothing says "Rock'n'Roll" like Jay-Z and Tupac...
If you read the article you'd see that a good chuck of it is direct quotes from Nugent. I'm referring to the quotes, not the author's writing. I don't like the author either, Nugent just sounds senile in the long quotes provided.
I never said his musical position wasn't apolitical. I understand what he's saying, he just sounds bitter and senile saying it. Your username is kinda political though.
I also love Jay Z and Tupac. Obviously they fit the definition of Rock and Roll and as a guitar player myself I prefer songs with real instruments. They are in because the Hall has had to pivot to become more of a music hall of fame rathe than just rock over the last 20 years. I actually think it's a cool thing, because all the great artists in history can be celebrated together rather than trying to separate them into genres. That's how most people age 40 and under operate these days anyway. Anyone that's social and really into music listens to hip hop, classic rock and the like all mixed together. Good music is good music brother.
Rap is not good music...
It's the same standard as Hollywood Walk of Fame. When a group raises money to have a nomination. I'm sure the vote is going to be "yes" we'll take your money.
Patti Smith definitely belongs in the Hall of Fame. Its hard too consider the other 2 artists rock. I guess some of her early music was closer to rock than most pop artists, but still it would be like a football player in the track hall of fame because he had a fast 40 yard dash. The only time I've heard grandmaster flash associated with rock was this induction into the hall of fame, never before or since.
My third sentence referring to Madonna

He has the God given right to say what he wishes.
But he's an invisible American...it carries no weight.
Sorry Nuge.
Draft dodges don't have an opinion?
Draft dodgers have strong enough moral principles to know that the United States wages unjust and unnecessary wars just to get oil and protect capitalist ideology. You sound like a bootlicker.

Mitt Romney was a draft dodger. In France, no less. You saying Romney has strong moral values and valid opinions?
Ha ha ha. First world problems
The RnR HoF has no credibility. Put aside all the non-rock acts like Madonna—they lost any relevance as a distinction when they inducted Billy Joel, the ultimate purveyor of schlock rock.
Regardless, if rappers belong, why not country acts? Country is a key influence on rock music. Rap barely connects to rock musically (only through their common r&b forebears). Industry types running the HoF couldn’t care less about omitting the hillbilly Southerners, but none would ever dare to explain omission of a group of AA artists.
Good old Ted. Now there's an intellectual. He ain't fit to tie Patti Smith's shoes.
Still waiting for my man Darius Rucker to get in either as a solo artist or with The Greatest Band of All Time, Hootie and the Blowfish.
The second greatest rock band of all time, The Killers, will be in eventually. Patience Brandon, climb the ladder. First Mormon inductee?

Bob Willis, Elvis, Brenda Lee, Johnny Cash, Wanda Jackson, and many other 'country' artists, including Jimmie Rodgers who many consider the founder of country music, are enshrined in the Rock Hall.
I've not been in a while and the exhibits may have changed but the lower level presented the story of blending country, blues, gospel, swing into rockabilly> rock > metal > southern rock> blues rock> yacht rock> country rock> what have you.
There is much crossover in all genres of music...

Gladys Knight converted to LDS after her induction

Rock is the greatest act of cultural larceny white people have ever committed. I wish you could recognize just how ignorant your comment is but you are simply too dumb for that.

Take it easy there. Your comment that "Rock is the greatest act of cultural larceny white people have ever committed" pretty much makes you as ignorant and dumb as the ignorant dummy you were responding to.

You'd know.

I’d rather have Great White in (very average rock band) than any of those artists. None are rock. Great White is.
Again, I’m not advocating for Great White, just making that point that at least they qualify, as they are Rock.
You really don't think Patti Smith should be in the RnR Hall of Fame?
She's pretty niche, not too talented and not that famous.
She's been around a long time, but she doesn't exactly have volumes of music that we can all point to. Why is she in? As somebody pointed out: "Feminist icon."
She's no more famous and prolific in terms of music we all know than Grandfather Flash. It's called the Hall of FAME, and neither he nor Patti are standouts in that regard. Accomplished musicians? Absolutely. HOF material? No.
I can't stand Madonna, but you can at least make the argument she should be inducted. I'm not at all thrilled about it, but she has produced and contributed more to music than Patti and Grandfather combined.
Frankly, they all suck. Then again, the RnR HOF isn't known for inducting those that are truly deserving. Why would this round of inductions be any different?

Why do morons think cultural appropriation only goes one way?
Without cultural appropriation Africa would be literally still be living in the iron age at best.
