What is there to do or say? Nothing is going to bring Abby back. Nothing ends the pain of her family losing two of their daughters/sisters.

Idk what to say about this sentence, 4 years, 10 years, life? What does it matter? it doesn't bring abby back. This person was a total wreck. Using drugs and driving, what a total mess. So many broken things in our society that allowed this to happen.

You’re right, nothing will bring her back but there needs to be a punishment that fits the crime and four years is not even close. Looking at her history of drug use and her POS husband cooking up and storing meth were kids are around not to mention his past history of being a pedophile, this screams of at least twenty to thirty years in the slammer.

And don't we still believe that punishment is some kind of deterrent? If you only get 3 years, people won't factor it in when making "choices" about drinking/drugs and driving.

I wish the penalty for driving while high was much harsher. So many cars drive past me on my runs with someone in the vehicle smoking a fat joint. That is insane. Weed is legal, but smoking while driving is not!

p.s. Kara Goucher's father was also killed by a drunk driver and it mess her up for decades...

I had no idea that you would be willing to spend 3 years in prison. That surprises me a bit. But clearly you would as you don’t see 3 years in prison as a deterrent. I sort of value 3 years of freedom. Maybe you do too but just aren’t thinking clearly.

You do sort of bring up a good point. Personally, three years in jail would wreck me! That would suck.

But there is a nothing-to-lose, YOLO, nihilistic part of the society who just doesn't see these "light punishments" as a a deterrent. They just know too many people who got sentenced to three years, did 18 months, etc.

Our prison system is packed yet at the same time people with DUIs are walking around in every town in American. It is scary for people like me who are running around on the shoulder of roads in the Winter darkness for three months out of the year...
