Race baiting? Why is Katir accused of doping here and Hocker isn't, when he has made the bigger jump in a year?
Katir at 23 dropped from 13:50 to 12:50 and ran 3:28 and 7:27(?) from 3:36/7:44. Spain is a country with a long history of athletes doping, which could explain such drops. I ran with a Spanish athlete whose brother was in the national training center as a cyclist and claimed everyone there was doping. Operation Puerto is still being covered up, as is the Sabadell incident. By contrast, we'd expect a major talent, long on the radar (as a national xc champion in high school), Cole Hocker, to improve a lot at Oregon at age 19-20, with great teammates for the first time and running above 40 miles per week for the first time. Hocker as an NCAA athlete was in a testing pool already and was tested at U.S. trials as well as NCAA champs. And Hocker was pulled to 3:31 on a very fast track in a 3:28 race, not particularly suspicious. His 5000m pr is still only 13:18, although he can run low 13 probably.
