Yeah. Im sure her teammates feel the same.
Let's see. What if another gymnast joined Bikes and walked out of competition too? Or 2 more or all? Because, you know , the pressure of not having their best teammate competing and having that thrust on them in the middle of competition was too much. Then what?
So to be clear this sort of behavior is acceptable to you when? Can a 10 year old now walk away from soccer tryouts because she felt too much pressure? How about a college grad doing a job interview ? What about a lawyer, at a murder trial , a lawyer who has won thousands of cases, suddenly walking out of the court room , leaving their client behind because she didn't feel it that day?
Let's keep it in sports. What about Sue Bird saying to her teammates during a water break that she didn't have it that night and walked off the court into the locker room.
Defending this is absurd. Quiting while she reptrsented herself is her choice. Quitting while she was a part of a team representing America is different.
She's done great things. But she has also forever tarnished her legacy.

GOATS, legends and world class athletes are humans first and foremost, no matter how otherworldly they may seem when performing astonishing feats, they're still humans and if you still don't understand that, then you're being deliberately condescending and stupid. Just quit being an online troll, it's really silly if you don't know that already. Perhaps, when you get to the same level as them, then you'll have a legitimate right to have a say in this matter but since you clearly don't, then stop trying to form hypothetical questions of 'what if' and go drink an ice cream or something.
I think people like you are proving her point. This isn't The Biles Show, it is the Olympics. There were 3 other ladies on that team for girls to look up to and saw them step up and win a silver medal even when their leader was struggling. They took that pressure and they did it. At the same time she has opened up a conversation about mental health and the humanness of great athletes. It is teaching little girls that nobody owns them. The public doesn't own Simone Biles, the US Olympic team doesn't own her, she doesn't need to allow herself to be sexually abused by doctors and treated like an object. She doesn't owe anybody anything and neither do any little girls out there, that is the message being sent. Why people have to twist this into such a negative thing is so stupid.

The creepiness of the OP comes through clear as day. Might as well have titled the thread; "I am a creep showing all my creepiness!"

Go ahead fella. Name another world class athlete that has had a “human moment” like this in the championship game? Normalizing quitting is exactly the garbage that would happen today. Quitting on yourself your team your country is nothing to celebrate. If everybody quit when they felt they couldn’t do something we would all be still living in caves. It’s how as humans, as a civilization we move forward. We persevere in the face of pressure.
You sir are a moron.
Nah, you sir are the real moron. Did you even carry out any research before spouting your nonsense all over the boards? First of all, gymnastics is NOT like most sports, it's an insanely dangerous sport where a tiny error can easily lead to a dangerous injury to the gymnast, so why try an insanely hard routine (as biles is particularly known for) when you're having a mental block (which can happen to anyone anytime anywhere btw including athletes too). According to Twitter reports, she competed in the USA nationals this year with broken toes in both her feets, and she even also competed at the world's with a kidney stone which is just insane and I doubt you can even go through the same without constantly doubling over like a person about to expire. No one knows an athlete better than the person him/herself so if she said she wasn't in the right state of mind to compete then I don't know, perhaps common sense would tell you to listen to them moreso since she's not known for just 'quitting' as you're trying to imply. She has been incredibly consistent over the last couple of years trying incredibly dangerous moves that ONLY she can execute, so why she would suddenly call it quits if it wasn't something truly serious? And mental health issues aren't just something that goes away if you don't know that already.
In conclusion, you can't even go through the half of what she's going through without buckling under the pressure and you know it, we all know it. So why don't you stop trying to find ways of belittling her and her achievements cos honestly you and her aren't even in the same league, she's a GOAT who has four freaking moves named after her and you're just an online troll.
Did you do any research? Football is 100 times more dangerous. Tom Brady was at much more risk of sustaining a life threatening injury during the superbowl than Biles was in the Olympics. Check your facts before going with your feelings.
Actually, cheerleading and gymnastics are ranked as the most dangerous sports by multiple injury research institutions. Also, are you really using Tom Brady as an example? If he even sees someone coming his way he falls to the ground and tries to cry to the ref before he's even touched. Using Tom Brady as an example of someone who has a high and dangerous liklihood of getting injured is like using your sentence as a paramount example of someone writing intelligently. It's just backward and stupid.
When you are pushed, or in a stressful situation... just quit. And remember, it's everyone else's fault for putting you there.

https://www.nbcsports.com/video/kerri-strug-overcomes-pain-win-gold-1996-olympic-gamesNice that you support an abusive coach making a young athlete compete on an injured leg. I realize theres plenty of bitter sadistic asshats here who have failed miserably in life and therefore seek out to tear down others who have achieved success far beyond anything they will ever know but coming down on the side of pushing an athlete to perform when that athlete KNOWS they are not ok, in a sport where there is an endless potential for severe injury including paralysis or worse, is evil in my book. Strug never should have vaulted on a sprained ankle. And Biles should not feel that she HAS to perform dangerous routines that require enormous concentration when she doesnt feel she can hold it together mentally just because we all demand that she carry the team all by herself to the top of the podium yet again. That should be obvious to everyone. Even the miserable nobodies on this sewer of a site.
And anyway, dont drag Kerri Strug into this. Shes on Simones side not yours:
https://twitter.com/kerristrug96/status/1420063374721703939So the message here is "know your limits" and "put your health first" and I cant think of a better message to send to young girls because the message "success is more important than your health and well being" has been harming girls for generations. Especially in gymnastics...
By the way, how come all the haters are calling her spoiled and not caring about the team but instead of sulking or running off and hiding at a time that must have been incredibly humbling and embarrassing for her, she instead sucked it up, put on her sweats, came right back onto the floor and stayed right there with the team cheering them on louder than anyone else? she even was delivering chalk to the other athletes like some anonymous gym assistant. the greatest gymnast on the planet... running down chalk for her teammates... THATS leadership... THATS someone who has the guts to face her team and the world after not doing what everyone expected of her, including herself. Thats pride. Stay with the team and do whatever is necessary to help out in some way. Most of you cowards run away from your failures. Clearly. Thats why you act the way you do on here. Too bad you dont have the guts to act like Simone and stand tall in the face of humiliation. stand with her team even when shes unable to perform for her team.
I'm a big Biles fan. The point you made about running down chalk for her teammates--she's a team-first player. She could easily have went into the locker room and not been seen at all after that!
She isn't dumb. That would have killed her marketability.
Lets show some compassion. The woman has a mental illness. It's no different than having some physical illness.

But the problem with this mindset, is that the consequences of quitting are still there. You can have every excuse in the book, but at the end of the day the outpouring of empathy is a brief respite from the 'trigger' behind the stress / anxiety, it's not an alternate path to the end goal. And quitting, to paraphrase a quote commonly attributed to Armstrong (I doubt he said it first), lasts forever.
Once you begin to lose these mental battles you lose your resilience. Ultimately, for Simone Biles, whilst this will probably leave a permanent scar on her psyche, she's still going to have her Gold medals, millions of dollars, and a long and successful media career waiting for her if she wants it. Heck, now she could be a mental health advocate to boot. But for the average man or woman quitting can be character defining and life changing - hence the underlying stress in the first place.
Although I support Biles, I see your point about fame opening doors--she'll have NO problem getting a good job for the rest of her life. The rest of us will have to fight the revolving door of HR and monster.com applicants. :(

Is gymnastics the only dangerous sport? I have never seen an MMA fighter just bail at the last minute because the pressure was just too much and it would have been less stressful to just quit, despite all the hard work they, their trainers and teammates put in to get them to that moment. It's a bratty selfish move.
Face it, Biles is weak sauce.

Fighters aren't too bright and end up brain damaged, they're tough but stupid.
I don't disagree that it might be over for her. We'll see in the individuals. When Chuck Knoblauch gets the yips (equivalent to a gymnast's twisties), the ball sails wide of the first baseman and usually no one gets hurt. If a gymnast gets the twisties, there's a realistic chance of permanent paralysis. Since she's basically the equivalent age of Jordan on the Wizards, her legacy is fine. (Other post) Comparisons to the GOAT of GOATS, Tom Brady are pretty silly, as at this point Bill Russell is the only equivalent. No one should ask WWTBD as no one but BR comes close.

It's interesting when a creep like Nassar gets busted you get all of the chest pounding men stating things like "If that were my daughter there would be no need for a trial!" and other tough guy rhetoric. However, the actual survivor of that abuse, who is someone else's daughter is now being disparaged by many of these same macho men. Humans are so strange.
You're talking about her. She did something unthinkable. She's already done everything else.
This is the most legendary exit of all time.
