Correct. It's embarrassing how bad people are at geometry.
The extra distance is only about 0.06 m.
If you make a right triangle using 80 meters along the inside line of lane one, and a 3 meter segment of the finish line (pushing people over to lane 4), then the hypotenuse, the actual distance run, is 80.06 m.
That's almost nothing extra, 6 cm.
This same geometry applies to slowly cutting in in the 800m...
