What sub zero temperature do you stop going out for you run

Thank you! I wear a merino wool buff in front of my nose/mouth but I find my breathing shallow because the air is cold/dry...? So I will try different kinds of masks and hopefully it will get better.

The other day it was -35C, -48C with the windchill.

I can run in any temperature I've seen here, but whether or not I enjoy it is an entirely different question. With enough layers, the coldest day is fine. But with enough layers it's just uncomfortable. The added weight, the friction of the layers moving as you move, and breathing through your buff/necktube, etc is just annoying.

These days if it's -20C (ignoring windchill) or colder I am probably not going outside.

The trick to sticking with running long term is to make sure you enjoy it.

I've ran in super cold temps when I was younger, I don't need to go out and prove I can still do it every winter.

I think the coldest run I ever did was -16f when I lived in Hixton, Wisconsin - a 4 mile run. The longest coldest workout I ever did was an 8 mile tempo racewalk in Normal IL with my coach Mike Dewitt we started at 7 am at -8 and finished at -2 we averaged 7:45 pace on that. No wind - on that according to my log book. Once, we did a workout at Parkside - Coach's wife drove us how highway (A) That road runs west to east. As I recall, the wind was out of the west at 50+ mph putting the wind chill down into the -30's. We all put on those old nylon wind suits and the damn things were like sails coach wanted us to walk like 7:45 pace for 10 or so miles. I think we were doing 7 flat and couldn't stop. A couple of years ago I did a 10 mile run with my team at -5 - we made it optional but almost all the kids went.

Most problematic at cold temperatures for me is often the hands. Either to cold or to warm/sweaty with my warmest gloves.

I used to run in negatives if necessary, but now in my 30s I bought a treadmill and am soft. I still run down to about 10F, but any less and I'll be on the treadmill shirtless and sweating. Can't complain honestly.
