You are foolish. the reason athletes train at the aerobic threshold is to use fatty acids and enhance the body’s ability to mobilize and use fatty acids, conserving glycogen for use at faster paces and other sessions.
I simplified by saying aerobic because the troglodytes here won't know what oxidative phosphorylation is.
the 200s at the end are using purely anaerobic, which is what i said.
In the context of this discussion, aerobic threshold is irrelevant. They're not training their aerobic threshold. They ran 1 rep of 1200m at a slow pace, which many of us seem to agree was more of an extended warm-up than the focus of the workout. They're obviously not training to enhance their fat burning abilities.
For the first rep, they were running at about 80% of Vo2max. You're saying that at 80% of Vo2max, fat is the PRIMARY fuel source? I guess all of the textbooks are wrong and you hold information that is better and far more complicated than the "troglodytes" here could hope to understand. Fat becomes a greater contributor to the energy demands as the duration of the run increases, but this is far too short and they're not running (jogging) slow enough to elicit a response that trains fat burning. This isn't a long run, it's a relatively short workout.
The 200s at ~800m race effort do primarily serve to elevate the fast glycolytic system and anaerobic capacity, but calling them purely anaerobic is just completely false.
You are just making things up again. You can hear the guy at 3:25 saying they are starting at threshold. DOESN'T SOUND LIKE A WARMUP TO ME.
Other people here have said it was designed to be an easy workout - dude at 3:35 "definitely going to be a tough one".....clearly it wasn't designed to be an easier workout. They also are talking at 7:43 about how high their level of strain was, all agreeing they were working hard - they agreed 18-20 out of 21.
You can hear at 3:15 in the video tinman says 400 jog rest (looks to be slow jog, around 2 minutes) between the 1200 reps. At 7:18 you can hear Hunter say 5 min jog after the 1200s. If they wanted to get any aerobic benefit from the 200s they wouldn't have taken full rest.
I don't know where you get 80% from, their strain level in the video on the first rep is shown to be 10.2 out of a max of 21..................
Aiming for 3:25 average and they actually hit 3:45, 3:36, 3:27, 3:17, 3:05. They only came within 7 seconds of their goal average pace in ONE REP.
