I’ve watched them to see if we actually get something out of it, but I don’t. They have zero value to me. I stopped watching.

Well, I don't spend too much watching these videos, I only watch Spencer Brown and rarely Sage Canaday and Ben Barrows. But I don't know, just watching videos of runners having fun with their friends excites me for tomorrow when I can run and have fun with my friends. Maybe the specific video you are talking about achieved that really blandly, I don't know. Sage and Ben are more just informational.
It's often the ultra-rich that stir up thoughts of communism and revolution among the poor to hurt the middle class. Explains a lot about modern corporate advertising.
I'm a loyal American who will take a MUCH larger slice of socialist policy in this country. I'm older, but you cannot scare the folks under 40 anymore with the socialism boogeyman. They'll answer with 'fvck you, European style socialism sounds pretty damned good compared to the hunger games sh!t show we've become in the US'.
Not that this has anything to do with youtube videos, but I will never fail to answer right wing trolls who make snide comments about the left wing, or about socialism.
Dude I'm 17 and Zack came across as immature to me

Of course youre not "getting antything out of it" they"re just for entertainment value. Not some training guide. They're 20 year olds, not your PT.

Pretty sure he's including entertainment value in that statement, otherwise it wouldn't be zero value to him.
We all have different tastes. I watch a lot of YouTube for entertainment, and but don't find most of the channels linked in this thread worth watching beyond once to see what they are about.

And it seems like every day there's another Boulder-based training group of collegiate or ex-collegiate runners doing the same that every other Boulder-based training group of collegiate or ex-collegiate runners is doing. Then, they run into each other and do a "collab" video and point all over the place for where I'm supposed to click next.
As a former Boulder-based collegiate and ex-collegiate runner I recall simply running. These groups seem to thrive on food prep, driving to somewhere, and running stuff en masse that I simply ran from my apartment. Different strokes.
nothing wrong with this. There are basketball youtubers with 1-5 million subscribers. Even Football youtubers like Deestroying who bring a lot of light into different parts of the sport. Even during the pandemic. There should be some runners who try to achieve that same level of success on the tube. I am all for it
From what I've seen (and take my bias with a grain of salt as I'm the "old guy" now who has been posting running related youtube videos for the last 12 years):
These college age and fresh out of college age runners are creating entertainment value with youtube vids (but there is also an inspirational and informative value in their videos). I'd imagine hs kids and college runners (And even "older guys" like me in their late 20s/30s/40s) do like to see "behind the curtain/lifestyle" bits of guys that have run sub 4:00 min miles and sub 8-min for 3km or even sub 14-min for 5km. The workouts with sub 60 sec 400m repeats, the 15-milers on Mags with sub 6-min miles....it can be exciting and inspirational (and informative) for a runner. Throw in some bits with what they eat at home and other "lifestyle" factors of living in a beautiful place like Boulder and you have a winning combination. Add in "characters" training as a group and you basically have a "Once a Runner" reality tv show. We used to joke at Hansons-Brooks that a "reality tv show" with episodes in the "track house" would have potential. I believe this is what we see now! Not a bad idea...I'm inspired by these younger runners and what they've done on youtube- and they make me want to up my video quality (which has been quite poor over the years). Of course I'm in a totally different realm being a marathoner/ultra-runner who does trail/mountain stuff and coaching.
interesting...It seems like people come out here for a year or two to try it out, while also doing something to develop long-term career for the main thing. they also may save by not living directly in Boulder, but maybe just driving into Boulder to meet up with the training group etc. Then after about 3 years and a new set OT training marks out there, i do not see any of the same runners around Boulder (or Colorado)area. So it seems like a revolving door.
That's definitely true, and the few you do see hanging around through more than one 4-year cycle failed to develop a long-term career track and hang onto running as their main thing much like you see with career yoga instructors. Even Sara Vaughn got a good-paying gig she can do around her racing schedule and parental responsibilities and she has far better running chops than 99% of the elites around town.
Holy crap - two dozen NC State women staying at 5 houses in the Boulder area.
I'm really torn about this kind of stuff. On one hand, I think we are all really starved for sports and any sort of running content. Also, I think that the running community has made great strides in becoming more transparent and dare I say, relatable. It's only been the last 10-15 years that you've really been able to meet and here from some of these athletes up close thanks to social media, running websites, YouTube etc. It's very humanizing to see these pros as "real" people like you and me and it honestly elevates running as a sport overall beyond something that people just think is exercise. I truly think people have just started to really grasp how demanding being a runner can be for those that really lean into the grind.
On the other hand, some of the content that has been pouring out lately is just pure cringe. I get trying to showcase your day to day and give some transparency (or personality) to your running lifestyle, but there are only so many finger gun signs and inside jokes you can make and still be taken seriously. I get it, it's not really supposed to be "serious", but it's not like a lot of content is being openly branded as satire either. If it were, I'd be all in. I'm not necessarily saying that I just want cut and dry videos of workouts and the same advice from pros/college elites about nutrition etc, but the obvious over attempts at humor are just weird. Building a brand or a social media presence in lieu of a looming/future contract may be one thing, but I am not sure how weird clips about shoddy homemade bagels or videos showcasing the runner's NBA jerseys/old shoes do that either.
I don't watch this stuff but I certainly don't begrudge anyone trying to promote themself or the sport.
these Buffs girls are hooked on reality tv and thrive on the attention. Until it turns negative and then they'll be crying. Mcarthur is the worst. Deeply insecure, Fueled by the "How to take a flattering photo" coaching she received by her photographer mother . No, Hunter had no time to waste on her juvenile, immature behavior - he wanted to be successful & build a bsns beyond running & has found a smart, mature, beautiful woman to share his life with. Wetmore will tire of this video-making, attention -mongering bs. Don't see Sage Hurta or Dani Jones behaving this way. They're serious athletes, and they've got the times to prove it. Losing respect for CU women's team.
