If she were to be racing other 9:40 girls. This is absolutely comparable to real race conditions. Look at Nico and sprout last year or Lukas when he went 8:29. Or when college guys race pros at the Stanford invitational.

Try to keep up with logic train. ASTRO claims that you gain 1-2 seconds by following. Nico followed Cole at Arcadia and ran 8:40. So ASTRO would have you believe that he would have run about 8:52 if he was leading. Cole led the race and ran 8:40 so if he had someone leading, he would have run 8:28. Not my logic. It is Astro's logic.

That proved to be a short course and was speed rated accordingly.

Drafting occurs in pro races. But it is incidental even with a pacer. When Cain set the two mile record she got to draft off a number of other runners, but they were not there solely to draft for her. Here you had multiple runners whose sole job was to let her draft off them the entire race.

Anyway the science of the draft effect is well established. We will see what she runs in a real race and if it is another 9:58.

The Brook's 2 mile where she placed 3rd in June, 2019. Followed by 9:58 on 02/29/20. But OK. 9:55. Happy?

And btw I have no angst, animus, etc. I just have a low tolerance for BS.

9:57.54 for two miles, which is 3218.688 meters. That is 9:54.1 for 3200m, assuming steady pace. So 9:54.1 is her racing PR for 3200.

Great job in the TT, just stay healthy and take a little bit of progress each year.

-She completely crushed every girl in TX during XC by 50+ seconds, before suffering from a 6-week pro-longed injury. She was running so much faster than last year, and putting down ridiculous times at every race. Despite missing 6-weeks of running, she still came back and finished 23rd at NXN...

I mean, Colleen finished about 20 seconds behind her... look back at XC season before Brown's injury, and you'll see Brown beat her by 50 - 60 seconds in two different races (where Colleen was 2nd...).

This is the fastest high school girl in history. If she gets a chance to run a 5k at nationals, I expect 15:29.

It's super cool that she's running that fast, but as with so many before her she's going to have to figure out how to put on enough body fat to menstruate at some point.

I'm glad I didn't run in high school. I feel bad for these girls and how stressful it must be to have your body go through puberty and slow you down, or delay puberty as much as possible and end up broken.

I should add that solo high school records are much harder and more impressive than records where the runner gets to draft off faster pro runners. That is simply because the pacing and drafting in a pro race makes it easier for the high school runner to run faster. That is the rule of thumb.

But this workout went way beyond even that. It would be as if every pro runner in the race where Nico set the 3000 record had been expressly instructed to run the race solely for the benefit of his time. To pace him. To make sure he was in good drafting positon. To slow down so he could stay sheltered. To run right behind him to push him and enhance the draft effect. To valet him from wire to wire. It was that strange to watch. And it wasn't a race at all. I think any of the top girl 2 milers would do sub 9:40 in this type of set up.

Btw, the South regional was weak last year.

Oh, yeah, by the way, congratulations to Brynn Brown on a spectacular TT. So it was not a sanctioned race! So there was no curb. So she had assistance in the form of pacing and drafting. So it was “only” hand-timed. So it wasn’t the finals of the Olympic 3000 meters. SHE STILL RAN A 9:39 3200, and even if she wakes up tomorrow morning with no legs, she can still say, for the rest of her life, that she ran a blistering 9:39.67! Way to go, Brynn!

World records have had pacers that are there to do the very same thing. Kipchoge ran 2:01:39 drafting off pacers. Bekele ran a 12:37 5k with pacers. Do they not count as world records?

Even without pacers one can draft off the competition. The time she ran is the time she ran.

1. Great effort. A sign of good things to come.

2. Yes, many records have had pacers but they weren't there in the later parts of the race.

3. Records have been surpassed during practice by athletes who were not able to do it under the pressure of competition.
