This piece is from last year but nicely summarizes something that I (and others) have noted about the current GOP, and that started long before Trump's ascendancy: the sheet mean-spiritedness of so many modern-day Republicans. They actively wish people ill in a way that transcends simple Schadenfreude.

I wonder what U.S. would be like as a nation if U.S. had a parliamentary system of government and not a U.S. Senate and Electoral College. T R U M P could lose popular vote by an even greater margin, 2020 and alshave a larger electoral college win. U.S. first politicians and writers of U.S. Constitution felt England's Parliament was flawed. U.S. was largely agrarian, 18th Century. The men who wrote U.S. Constitution did not realize that the remaining agrarian states in 2019 would hold U.S. back significantly.
We cannot as a nation invest properly in K-12 education because those in rural U.S. do not value education. We cannot invest in high speed rail linking all cities in U.S. by high speed rail greater than 1/2 million population because rural America do not value rail. We cannot have modern airports in U.S. because those in U.S. rural areas do not value modern airports. We cannot have subways or light rail in every city in U.S. because those in rural areas do not value rail in cities.
Those in U.S. rural areas do not want U.S. to provide financial aid to poor nations but those in rural areas seem not to mind an unlimited military budget. Do those in U.S. rural areas realize foreign aid is meant to prevent famines which are tied in with wars? I fear T R U M P may do well in Electoral College, 2020.

Almost all the gays I know are very anti-Trump. The only exception is my step-bother who is a gay cop—he is a YUGE Trumper. So, it is accurate to say Trump has some support in the LGBTQ community but I think to say “many” support Trump would need some qualifications / definitions to be accurate.

I am not sure how any person in the LGBQT person could support the POTUS given this case and his role in likely having it decided in a negative way for their community.
When I have spoken with my step bro about this pending SCOTUS case he just gets quite, then angry, and then shouts “But, but, but her EMAILS”... .”BENGHAZI”.... and “DAMN YOU OBAMA”..... and then storms out of the room.
