You make your own luck! Not the race I imagined but we made it the best race I could ever ask for. Thank you Jess, Sam, Richard, Barnaby, Mungo, Luke & Claire for all the support. Oh and the rain for cooling me down Motherfuc...
Also judging by his profile pic he wears his watch on his left arm, and chose to go clockwise around the loop, placing his watch arm on the outside (traveling further than he actually was). This in addition to the gps error.. its a lot.

Ok I did some rough math and I'll admit the watch arm thing is a bit of a stretch, probably only makes a 0.75-1.5% difference in the final distance covered, but that is still 1-2 mins.

Ugh, your math is likely wrong.
It's probably gonna depend on the watch, but my old Garmin used to measure 390m when going anti-clockwise around a track, and it would measure 440m when going clockwise.
Anyway, I'm just saying, it's very likely that his watch gave him an extra mile at least.
Woke up from my nap as the Believe in the Run crew were yapping about smoking and how bad it is and in the next sentence they talk about getting drunk after their marathon..and the other evenings before. What's with Americans and alcohol? Why is it so normal? Or is that just BIR? They do realize smoking and alcohol=the same toxic unhealthy category?! Who runs marathons and drinks? Eww. At least Thomas wasn't there this week lol
they've all got Peter Pan syndrome (especially Thomas who is the oldest by far) and drinking is very much part of that. But Karl and Robbe will sling a cig every now and then (Robbe says 4x per year after Berlin and NYC for example).

Yeah I think a mile (and some probably) is about right. He's chosen a covered looped course, is wearing the watch on the outside wrist. Those things together add up. A percent or two or for each one and you're up to around 6% for the distance over read, that puts his time more in line with the verified pbs that he's got - plus a bit for him covering the actual extra distance and it's a 2:4x high - 2:5x low time.
Imo speaks to integrity issues at the heart of runna - no way he doesn't know he's not a 2:34 runna, he's not an idiot, yet he'll happily use it to bolster his credentials

Mine measures 410m going clockwise around my local track. It depends on the exact GPS location. Anyway, the real clown move is claiming a Strava pb as an actual pb. Should tell you everything you need to know about the "Runna app" when the CEO is doing that bs.
Don’t know why everyone on this forum cries about a few beers, you’re allowed to enjoy a drink every now and then without it ruining your life. Of course it needs to be enjoyed in moderation but it’s part of a normal life

Disagree completely. Alcohol is a poison and should be made illegal with immediate effect. My watch will inform me I’ve not slept and my sub 4 marathon hopes are over the morning after I’ve had a couple of post work shandies. Hate the stuff
The only truly good runner I know of who can enjoy a few pints with the lads and still be a top class athlete is Nick Bester. Fair play to him. He used to be part of the corporate world though where it was part and parcel of daily life. So he can still juggle a few cigarettes and lagers now and then whilst still smashing out sub 30 minute 10ks in blistering sub Saharan temps

Godwin's law (or Godwin's rule), short for Godwin's law of Nazi analogies,[1] is an Internet adage asserting: "As an online discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Nazis or Hitler approaches one."[2]
I propose Bester's law:

Jake “Ran to Japan” Barraclough just did a marathon in 2:17:36 as a training run for Valencia next month. He started out at 3:20/km for 30k then picked it up the last 12k. That’s impressive , a 2:17 training run with no taper. I like watching him , he’s kind of goofy . It’s amazing how hard he trains , 280 km a week. I hope he doesn’t get a serious injury.

It’s just the same guy though, with the same Bester schtick, over and over and over again…. It wouldn’t be that bad if half the members of this forum didn’t take the bait every single time.
