So given those two facts above, is there any reason for Mulvaney, Pompeo, and other administration officials to defy the lawful congressional subpoenas?

If they wanted to testify, I would say let them testify. I am frankly tired of people in the executive brand ignoring subpoenas and this happened with frequency during the Obama presidency. At the same time, members of Congress can't be subpoenaed. These last 3 years have been hugely disgusting and hugely exhausting. I am worn out. I have almost become an Anti-Trumper but the only thing that trumps (no pun intended) that for me is I am even more an anti-House Dems and anti-Mueller-investigation team when everyone on that investigative body were hard core Dems. Is that what you really want? A partisan witch hunt? Because the Mueller investigation WAS a partisan witch hunt and these impeachment proceedings, oh sorry - impeachment "inquiry" - is also a partisan witch hunt. Here is something you maybe didn't know - the House Dems actually did polling to decide what to charge Trump with. Just a clown show.

If it's a partisan witch hunt why doesn't Trump admit the release of the military aid was contingent on Zelensky announcing an investigation into Biden on CNN? Instead it's been constant nonsense about Never-Trumpers, Schiff, the whistle blower, "I want nothing", hearsay and so forth.

If you're denying the Zelensky CNN story you should consider that no one is clever enough to make that up and Zelensky was scheduled to be interviewed by Fareed Zakaria before the WB report came out.

If the Ukraine thing is just a clown show, why is Trump lying to cover it up and not allowing people to testify?

You know Trump has done or will do some other offense that will need to be looked into.

For example, there has been no hearing on his emoluments violations.

And as he keeps blocking his tax returns and financial transactions, not only from the past but as a public figure, they can keep pressing in the courts and keep him under the microscope.

Trump wants the impeachment done with. Don't give that to him. Don't turn it over to the senate.

Once the primaries are over, the threat of Trump going after Republicans who rebel will be neutered in any swing states with a senate Republican or any senator not up for re-election.

There will be at least 20 Republican senators that may politically gain or have nothing to lose by going against Trump.
