I think trump IS moving to Ohio. They’ve got several federal pens, I think. If they imprisoned trump in Cali, it would just cost extra to fend off all the extra assassination attempts.

You are dead wrong. "We" are not doing a lot. "We" are the worst offenders in the world.

* We Americans are responsible for more greenhouse gasses in the atmosphere than any other nation.

* We Americans are the greatest emitters per-capita in the world today. (This is shown in the UN report I referenced)

* We Americans are rated in the "Critically Insufficient" column by climtetracker.org. That means we join Russia and Saudi Arabia as having the greatest lack of compliance with the goals of the Paris agreement. We are even rated worse than China.

We Americans are in denial.

If we understand the climate crisis and we acknowledge that it is real, then we need to act like it. Until millions of us start taking direct action against the government, nothing will change.

Fat Hurts - I know you are very passioniate about this. But to suggest that America (The US) is doing nothing is not really true. The US CO2 emissions have been declining. We have been doing a better job. China if off-the-charts as far as their CO2 expenditures over the last 20 years. Nothing will change unless we get China and India on board.

I'm just stating the facts. Look at the latest UN report from yesterday. We Americans are the worst per-capita emitters in the world. We have emitted a lot more CO2 than any other nation.

But pointing fingers won't solve the problem.

Thanks for this. Very eye-opening. I tend to look at US, China and India as huge monoliths but when looking at on a per capita basis, you tend to see things differently.

We have Community Colleges all over this country with horrendous graduation rates. While some worthy college students begin with Community College, the majority of those who go to Community Colleges never get a degree, neither a 2-year Associates Degree nor a transfer to a 4-year college for a degree there. People attempt community college because it is cheap, but most of them have no business attempting college. If we provide free college, even more will make the attempt. It is throwing good money at something that has a great likelihood of failure.

Not everyone is equipped to go to college. People like to think that anyone can go to college and focus and graduate, but that's just not true. You have to have above-average intelligence to go to college and be successful there. That is just a reality.

If the pool of money were ONLY for trade school or paid apprenticeships, I would be for it. We don't need to give free college away to people who will make more money than those who can't go to college. THAT is actually what is elitist.

Regarding my daughter, she got into an elite college because she was a stellar student, and because we made less than $160,000 at the time, she got very good financial aid. Even though tuition and room and board was over $65,000 a year, our out-of-pocket was about $7,000 a year (not including her loans), and then she took small loans totaling less than $15,000 total (our agreement with her that we would top her out at $15,000). We made the loan agreement with her because she could have gotten full ride academic scholarships to many state colleges inside and outside of Ohio (based on reciprocity, and some just based on her GPA and SAT score), but she wanted to go to the school of her choice. It was a good fit for her, so The Lovely Mrs. Flagpole and I agreed to let her go there.

The fact is that there are already many ways to go to college for little cost. Poor people with college ability actually have the greatest chance to pay little to no money to go to college.
