Arguably the GOAT YouTuber, Casey Neistat, did NYC Marathon yesterday. Last year he did 2:57:48 and he wanted to do break that by 1 second this year this year. He did 2:57:41, so I guess that’s technically a fail :)
Casey's videos can be annoying in many ways (not running-related, just in general) but you gotta respect a guy who wants to break 3 and finally does it running NYC every year and wearing Brooks Ghosts.

His video last year from NYC is legitimately great. It's what happens when you have a real filmmaker running a YouTube channel, and not a wedding photography/videography guy.
Yeah I don't mind him although he is a bit of a Bargain Basement Bester.

For the avoidance of doubt, it wasn’t a dig. I like his channel a lot. edit: when I said ‘fail’, I meant he improved his time by more than his hoped for 1 second (ie, I was joking).

Jimmy Runs with an absolutely insane goal of dropping his marathon PB from 2:57 to 2:34 in 5.5 months while also running on a -500kcal daily deficit to try and drop 12kg.
Honestly sounds like a recipe for an injury at best or something much more serious at worst assuming he is planning to up his mileage as well.
To me it seems like he has drunk the NSA kool-aid, saw quick improvements and is now biting off way more than he can chew. I'm an NSA advocate but the rapid improvements many see come from being able to consistently bang out higher mileage than they could in the past. That will plateau and the gains will become much slower with time. Expecting it to continue seems ludicrous to me, I'm intrigued to see what happens.
Don't think I've seen any mention of Truett Hanes in here - dude didnt even toe the line at NYC, DNS. Coming from the guy who has constantly said he's built different and doesnt need rest etc.
I do think what he has been doing is impressive (clean or not idk?) - it seems like its finally caught up to him, he seems a little bit humbled by it though which is encouraging to see. Wanted to see what he ran on a legit course so he could "silence the haters" ?
I hope he makes to the starting line in 1 piece. Crazy goal, I doubt the initial rapid improvements will continue at the same pace even with a small caloric surplus. Certainly rooting for him, not sure if he's on TRT, that might help though.
I've been following Jimmy Runs pretty closely and I like him, kind of shocked by this goal and his plan to get there. Probably going to be a "shoot for the stars, hit the moon" thing at best. Hopefully he doesn't get discouraged by a 2:52 or something, which of course would still be fantastic progress for him.
I don't understand the weight loss thing at all. If he's 80kg and 14.5% bodyfat how does he expect to lose 10kg healthfully? That math ain't mathin.
I feel like we're in the post-marathon manic/emotional phase maybe.

Kofuzi is working to pay off the by posting video of the Chicago Marathon, which he did not run. The Believe in the Run Crew threw some shade his way when they disclosed Kofuzi has been banned from both Boston and New York (and maybe Chicago too) for filming without a license. Thomas wants you to know that the Believe in the Run Crew always has a license.
And last but not least, the Greatest of All Time, Still the Original Running YouTuber has apparently re-retired. As you can tell from the above, the influencer world just isn't as good as it was circa 2020 when Seth was the Number 1 Running YouTuber.
SJD actually put out an FKT video a couple of days ago -- after not releasing any videos for a while including no videos about his second place at the Pikes Peak Ascent.
I really enjoy Jimmy Runs as I followed his NSM series. I do wonder if this new goal is more of a sensational click bait ploy to grow his channel. I am not so sure that such a big jump is likely but I do hope he does progress and not get injured.
Didn’t seem that many YouTubers doing NY marathon? I guess the flatter majors are more appealing. Any finishers?
I saw Donato finished in 5hrs 12. So well done to him. Not sure if that’s a PB for him but seems like he gave it a go and had to walk the final part unfortunately
Donato is a very good masters runner and is actually one of the original running YouTubers who's been making videos and doing live-stream interviews of notable runners for a decade. I'm surprised he isn't mentioned in this thread more often.
Then the HR thing about her average being 190 - again I get there's potentially a sponsorship/financial aspect to not calling out that data from the Coros. But do they seriously believe that her average HR for a 2:04 half marathon was 190?
Absolutely possible, and perfectly normal for many folks - particularly women - who simply have higher max HR's (think 210, 215). My wife among them: >190 for a 79:xx half and a 2:52 marathon, on a Garmin chest strap.
Massive myth that everyone's MP needs to sit in 150-160bpm range. Some people just have faster hearts!

It's hilarious that he can consistently run those times meanwhile quite a few of the shoetubers who's lives revolve around running fail to do so while getting unlimited free apparel, shoes and nutrition to help with their training and races

Few bits of Ben is Running's Valencia half video irked me. First and foremost is that personally I don't enjoy having his sister/gf's running on the channel. If I want to watch an almost identical lineup of women running similar times to those two there's a glut of influencers I can look to, I don't come to your channel for that content. It's very on trend that she's become a Runna influencer having failed to reach her A goal in a near perfect race set up for her, with a private pacer on a near perfect course with all this gifted and sponsored support.
Then the concept of the video - going to Valencia so Ben can help pace her to a PB, and the talk about Colchester being too hilly for her earlier in the year to run quick enough. Is the pacer feature on the Coros watches that you're both conveniently showing a few times in the vid not good enough that you need a pacer to come out with you?
Then the hilly Colchester debacle - like yeah it's a slightly hilly course - a bit hillier than the big half but it's not a fell race by any stretch. At the point you're running a 2hr 10 half the problem isn't that you've picked a course with 50ft too much elevation for you, it's that you can definitely get waaaay fitter. You're in your mid 20s, just train a bit more/a bit harder. If you 'need' to fly to a foreign half to get one flat enough to PB as a 2hr+ half runner honestly what's the point? To me it's almost embarrassing. C'mon get fit enough that you aren't taking walking breaks in your PB attempts before you worry about choosing the fast foreign courses.

I remember a reel from a different runner who essentially torpedoed his whole marathon because his wrist sensor was telling him the same sort of thing for the first 5k.
Agree with all of that, but the thing that irked me most was the blatant lie in the title.
You didn't pace your sister to a sub 2 hour half marathon, she ran 2:04. Can you just lie about things for clicks now, with absolutely no ramifications?

This isn't quite related to shoetubers, so excuse my indulgence, but I do feel it is in the spirit of many of the conversations here. The Official Marathon Time Integrity Unit (www.instagram.com/officialunofficialtime/) is really providing some interesting content. A lot of 'hybrid' athletes being found claiming times faster than their chip time. It is quite funny to see some runners knocking a few minutes off their time for no real purpose (e.g. 2:54 down to 2:52).

Who would police the lies? The YouTube police?
Seems to be pretty common for some channels to go down the click baity route. its alienates some of their core audience. I've had to stop watching some channels (non running related) due to this. When pulled up in the comments (multiple times by various people) they defend it by saying thats how youtube works and they need it for views. If they get more new viewers than losing old viewers it works for them i guess. but its annoying as hell.
