Flagpole entirely misses that Trump pre-empted a legal process. (In this case extended a pardon). He stopped the process in its tracks. With this action Trump is saying he has the power to stop a Federal legal process at any point. I find it amazing that Flagpole supports that "imaginary" presidential power.

Trump did not pardon the Seal by his action. He STOPPED a military legal process. This has nothing to do with the power to pardon. It has to do with executive overreach, and meddling in the legal process before there is anything to pardon. In this case, before there is something new to add to the already granted pardon; restoring a military rank.

I know he didn't pardon him, but the result is the same. The law says he can do that. I'm not saying it is GOOD that he can do that, but he can. He is the President, and he can do that if he wants. The only debate is whether he is allowed to do that or not, and he can.

Sorry, you both are wrong. He has the authority to do what he did. Shows how bad of a leader he is to shi!t on the military like that, but he has thee authority to do so. He's a bad guy, but there's so much he does that he is NOT allowed to do...stick with that for now.

Show me a law that says he CAN'T do that. Also, I do NOT support that Presidential power. I don't think Presidents should have that kind of power, effectively pardon power, at all, BUT he DOES have that authority as things are.

I did NOT miss that he pre-empted a legal process. That's what Ford did when he pardoned Nixon before charges were brought. He can pardon at any point in a legal process, so this is in effect the same thing. Show me a law that says he can't do this, and I will change my mind about it. Everything I've read and heard says he is allowed to.
