The US military swears an oath to the Constitution. The service chiefs and other senior officers wouldn't have followed threw if Trump gave them orders to use force to stop the transfer after the election. Trump knew it had to be done by the extremist groups and whatever mob he could rile up to support them, so that is what he did.
