Anyone who thinks Trump cheated on his taxes is one of the biggest idiots of all time. Trump does not do his own taxes. He pays very highly paid tax attorneys to do his taxes. They are pretty much de creme de la creme of tax attorneys and you really think they are going to tarnish their reputations by cheating on Trump's tax returns? NOTHING.

Trump is good at selecting people who will lie and cheat. An ethical attorney is not working for Trump. He is hiding something in his taxes that would be bad for him for people to see. That is obvious.

Yep. Doesn't necessarily mean that he has done illegal things with regard to his taxes, but it is still VERY LIKELY. Tax attorneys only prepare what you tell them...value of properties, losses on properties, etc. Those things are on Trump.

The mostly likely thing is that his taxes will show he doesn't make what he pretends to make. He already says he's worth north of $10 billion while guesstimates have him around $3 billion or less, and even those guesstimates for the most part are based on what Trump has told them over time. His first appearance on the Forbes list had him at $100 million due to him lying about being given most of his father's money, and the real estimate now made decades later is that he was probably at about $5 million then...so a 20 times exaggeration. If that held true, that would take Trump really down to about $600 million today. That seems more likely, but as he is the self-described King of Debt, it's probably much less even. I can go get a loan from Bank of America today. He can't, because he's a fraud.

I think the Rs are completely wrong in their defense of trump, they should be helping hold him accountable. BUT the more important question has been surfacing, and it is worthy of lengthy discussion and analysis: Where do we draw the line when it comes to POTUS limitations? We never had someone so openly unethical like agent orange, so willing to cross the line. Clearly, the lesson here is that some sort of standards should be established and POTUS should not be able to cross those lines or defy them - for example, making them release tax returns, distance themselves from material personal business, not engaging in any nepotism, having clear process for demonstrating objectivity from other branches. Trump has proven that the POTUS can operate pretty much unchecked, especially if their party controls all branches. Maybe something good comes out of this presidency after all, but this kind of change will take a willing POTUS and majority control in parties to effect. GOP would never agree.

Will say this for Nth time... there is a mostly clear distinction between tax representative/preparer responsibility and that of the taxpayer. The tax rep(lawyer)/preparer cannot be held liable for fraudulent or unintentionally wrong information provided to them by the taxpayer (or the CPA representing them). These professionals are responsible for procuring the necessary information and for using that information in the right way when they prepare the return or represent their client's financial standing. This is why accounting firms have clear rules about not preparing the returns for a client they provide other accounting services for.

If trump's accountants provided some bogus estimates and assumptions to the tax preparer, the tax preparer is not at fault for including that information. They are responsible for ensuring that information was requested and input correctly into the returns. Now the bigger question may be to what extent trump knew that the numbers being fed to the prepaper were fraudulent/wrong. There are ways to connect the dots back and show that he would have known and should have known and is still held responsible. He or another representative has to sign off on that return by the way.

This whole episode has made clear to me that the US only works if POTUS is a good person. He doesn't have to be competent or skilled...but he can't be a malevolent force. The setup just doesn't work when that happens.

What's happened is that we've had many generations of basically good people in the oval office. Nixon was the worst human being in the list, but in the end he realized that the country comes first. Trump doesn't even realize that.

Call me naive, but I really think a very positive outcome could come of this if Biden is elected and he decides to work with congress to hand power back to the legislative branch after decades of it handing power to the executive branch.

The dynamics might actually work....Biden would be recognized as one of the great, visionary presidents...and why wouldn't congress accept more power?

Foreign policy is key here...it's crazy that so much power is invested in one man. It's not healthy or good. One man shouldnt' be able to F up so many facets of foregn policy. NATO, Paris accords, japan, SK, etc.
