OK, I read it, and it only took about 10 seconds in to see why you're so on board with it. It's really nothing but a big jerk off fest over your favorite topic : peer reviewed journals and global warming.
Second, none of what she mentions is actually inherently "illegal." What Warren actual means is "we'll start prosecuting such cases."
You read it too fast then because you completely misread the proposal. What she is talking about is not illegal at this time.
She proposes new laws to fix the problem. These laws would:
* Create a new “corporate perjury” law to hold companies accountable when they lie to federal agencies.
* Ban agencies and courts from considering non-peer-reviewed, industry-funded research.
Today there are no laws that cover lying to government agencies except in specific cases like securities fraud.
Again, this is what I like about Warren. She is not just hitting the well-promoted, hot-button issues. Warren is taking on issues that make a difference no matter where they are found.
First of all, "Ban agencies and courts from considering non-peer-reviewed, industry-funded research" won't actually do jack sh!t. Take it from someone who's published in and edited peer reviewed journals. The quality today is hilariously bad but I guess you have to start somewhere.
Second, I'm really not sure why you think lying to government agencies isn't illegal. VW tried it just a few years ago and their CEO is on the run and the CEO of Audi is in jail, not to mention lower execs who were tried for fraud and lying to the EPA in the US! You and Warren both seem to think that just because Exxon hasn't been brought to trial means what they did is totally legal.
If she were actually pragmatic about the whole thing then she would promise to set up a task force to investigate any criminal wrongdoing and if new laws do need to be created to prevent such actions in the future then they'll be considered appropriately.
