You are taking credit as being an undergraduate from a top 40 research university. You can't make such a claim unless you were involved in the programs the university was ranked for. Your claim is like saying I graduated with a business degree at one of the top engineering schools in the country. The business and engineering sides are not related.

Maybe Sally can find his/her university on a site which actually ranks business schools based on journal contributions, which some use as a measure of research. In the following link the number of journal publications used to determine rank. The list is maintained by UT Dallas which should comfort Sally.

Personally, the number of journal articles published is not the best measure to rank schools. The reason is that all journal articles are not the same. Major universities use research money brought in (grants) in addition to publications made (books, articles, book chapters, presentations, software developed, and more).

Thanks but it is not that big of a deal. I did not realize that the Shanghai rankings and others were based on graduate programs. UT-Austin is still a very good university and the women there rival those of UCLA.
