So Jake/RTJ is currently at 193km for this week with a marathon this weekend with Jake noting that he doesn't really plan to taper for his A race in Valencia in 6 weeks. How we feeling about his sub 2:10 goals?
no chance.
the honeymoon period is over. the mad mileage was fun for a while but now its just a revolving cycle of massive mileage and mediocre races. the mileage has passed the thresh-hold of any return
other than a few seconds here or there, there is no improvement happening and i think he needs a decent coach or at least a bit more direction rather than just more jogging on the menu.
this thread is also going to the dogs - i live in england. WTF is Floberg? thankfully he hasnt found his way onto my youtube stream but to much chat of him and Bester on here, makes me wanna just post sh1t to wind people up
I think RTJ will be close to sub 2.10 in Valencia. He uses races as sessions because he has to train so much solo. I think if you look at his training it's not all jogging. Sure, plenty of steady miles but also lots of high-quality stuff. He's clearly still on a strong upward curve.
I think "race" today says it all. He doubled after it so clearly a session not a race

I often see Battersea mentioned as a haunt of some of our more popular UK based shoe tubers and I think there is a striking comparison to be made between the once great Battersea power station and the modern trends of narcissistic hobby joggers. What was once a monumental feat of engineering; functional, purposeful, and awe-inspiring in its industrial grandeur, now stands gutted and repackaged, its purpose solely to provide for mindless consumers. Behind the preserved façade lies a postmodern playground of glass, retail, and self-importance: a shell of what it once was. In a place where everything gleams, you can always catch your reflection in a GoPro lens.
Kofuzi is working to pay off the by posting video of the Chicago Marathon, which he did not run. The Believe in the Run Crew threw some shade his way when they disclosed Kofuzi has been banned from both Boston and New York (and maybe Chicago too) for filming without a license. Thomas wants you to know that the Believe in the Run Crew always has a license.
And last but not least, the Greatest of All Time, Still the Original Running YouTuber has apparently re-retired. As you can tell from the above, the influencer world just isn't as good as it was circa 2020 when Seth was the Number 1 Running YouTuber.
Ugh this was a formatting disaster:
Kofuzi is working to pay off his Klarna Loans he used to buy a collection of Nike Running shoes. BITR implied that Kofuzi had been banned from running in Boston AND New York, just that the ban wasn't publicized the way Choi's ban was (fwiw I think running with a selfie stick that extends four to six feet out from you in a race with 10,000 plus runners is just as dangerous as the e-bikes. Allie Ostrander is locked in for the USATF National XC Champs. Spencer Brown is taking an off season after a solid Boulevard 4 Miler in Spokane. Ben Felton is celebrating his PR. Ben Parkes is throwing shade at other YouTubers and telling people not to drink LMNT. Harry Morgan made a video about pacing his 68 year old Dad in a half marathon. And Phily Bowden's videos about being injured get more views than Kofuzi and BITR combined.
Kofuzi is probably finished. Very few videos of him actually running races anymore and trying to be more like a correspondent going out and reporting on things. That's not going to translate into views.
I also wonder if Floberg has been banned from Boston? He filmed on course in 2023 and since that time he never talks about Boston no interest in it kind of acts like it doesn't exist. I bet he was silently banned too although I don't have anything other than speculation to substantiate this.
He clearly can be running it with his times so the fact that he did not in 2024 or 2025 is sus.
I noticed Scott Beattie pacing Almgren. Not sure how long he lasted but must have done a good job considering Almgren’s result. Alfie Manthorpe ran a great race as well ending up as fastest Brit.

I don’t think he talks about Boston because it’s an uninteresting and overrated major marathon and a cheat course where the wind direction can make it a cheat code to a PB.
If we are being real, no country should have more than one major marathon so the US needs to sacrifice two of their majors and in my view the one which should probably stay is New York.
So let’s assume they want 10 major marathons in the coming years (seems to be the angle they are pushing for). It should be:
1) London
2) NY 3) Berlin
4) Tokyo
5) Sydney
6) Paris
7) Valencia
8) Cape Town (although somewhat in doubt now due to the recent cancellation shambles) so perhaps another African city.
9) Shanghai or another Chinese city
10) Rio de Janeiro or another S.American City.
You could also argue for a Canadian city or Amsterdam perhaps in place of Valencia or Paris. Paris vs Valencia is a tough choice. Paris a way more iconic city but Valencia is the better/faster marathon.
Where else would you consider assuming they have 10 majors and bin off the boring American ones. Which of the USA ones would you keep?

Floberg had to take down his big Boston video after the race because of illegal filming on course. He might have just gotten a warning since he complied with the BAA request but he is solely focused on time and running flat races (and training on flat terrain) so maybe he’s now avoiding Boston for that reason alone.

lol you really took that person's comment into an opportunity to just go down a rabbit hole of your opinion on which countries should have WMMs when literally no one asked for this. lowkey stfu LMAO completely pointless and unsolicited comment nobody cares to discuss this topic in this thread.
to the other commentor - i doubt floberg is banned from boston. like someone else said, he simply got told to take down race footage from his youtube. why would he run boston again in '24 or '25 when he just did it in '23. many other races to do out there and doing boston consecutively isn't something i'd really expect in terms of his 'goals' and for youtube view purposes. this is coming from a guy (like many others here) who think floberg is a douchey dumb insufferable scammy dramatic loser. but i still felt compelled to comment on this matter and at least state the boi probably is not boston banned!
Another stinker of a weekend for Makou and Hobdell. The training is pathetic. Doesn't seem like they're ever prepared to push themselves or do any substantial intensity. The strength work they do is fine for the 5k/10k where you can get by on talent but when it comes to the half doing some weak double threshold nonsense to heart rate isn't preparing you to run for over an hour in the 4:30's.

For real? I agree the training is not good but for different reasons to this. Hobdell's training is hard, very very hard and only those who just happen to be very robust can withstand it. Everyone else drops by the wayside.
Admittedly I haven't watched any of their team videos or followed any of their athletes so maybe he has changed his approach completely since I used to follow his long distance Irish athletes, but that would seem somewhat unlikely?
