I appreciate some people just don't understand ultras, but if you believe that, you've been sucked into just as big a fairytale as the one about Nedd having a shot at Kouros' record.
I'm not sure who holds the best 1000 mile performance, but Petras Silkinas won the 1998 Nanango 1000 Mile Track Ultra in Queensland in under 11 days 14 hours.
If Nedd's going to break Petras' time, he would have to be running at nearly 150km/day.
Don't get sucked into the bullsh!t again.
Nedd is at 1245km at 9 days and 3 hours.
By the end of Day 10 in Nanango, Petras had run 1409km.
Sure, it was hot in Nanango that year, but no chance Nedd is going to close that sort of gap.
It's the same spin that after 6 days had Nedd still gunning for Yiannis' 1000 Mile WR when he'd run about 875km, compared to Yiannis' split where he had casually set a new 6 Day world record of 1029km as he cruised through. Or when Nedd passed through the 1000km mark, 34 hours after Kouros did, but hey, Nedd was still closing in on that record!
It would be cool if Nedd's website could provide daily info of how he's actually progressing in comparison these other performances he claims to chasing (Bryan Smith's Aussie record might be next that is touted), so everyone who does follow and support can be properly informed of his real progress.
Or if he really wanted to be compared to the best, he could always choose to show up and race against them. Just has to be open to the possibility of not having a number 1 next to his name throughout the duration of the race.
I don’t think they’re blatantly trying to cheat. I just think it’s a complete ignorance that when you say it’s a record attempt, you need to follow the same rules as everyone else who competes at that level.
And clearly they’re promoting to a market that doesn’t care. I don’t see any athletics bodies or elite runners getting behind the great effort.
Okay, but can you answer the question this time? Why does it bother you so much?
I just did, but I understand you don’t actually want to know. You just want to perform like this so you can justify to yourself why you’re enjoying the comparison of a guy raising $1m for the homeless to a cancer-faking psychopath.

Responding to a question with a fairly irrelevant general sentiment doesn’t qualify as an answer to that question. I’m just going to assume you don’t actually have an answer and are trolling…as suspected
Thanks, that’s helpful. As a former track runner the lane non-compliance frustrates me; I can also see how some people mightn’t think it matters as much.
I kind of assume there isn’t much that can be in terms of doping in real-time (that is, any ‘real’ doping would need to be done during training), so behind closed doors would IV fluids and non-WADA compliant painkillers be the most one could do?
Yeah I wasn’t going to directly say IV fluids or pain injections but everyone can guess it so I can’t be too crazy. They’re the obvious ones to me in these situations.

There are anti fatigue stimulants that would also surely be beneficial if one sought an unfair advantage.
There is no track record, at least not one that can be set. IAU abolished surface distinctions for records back in 2014. Then, IAU stopped maintaining records for 1,000 miles in 2021, and GOMU was formed and took over maintenance. GOMU also has no surface distinctions for records.
The final 1,000-mile track record recognized by IAU was indeed Petras Silkinas with 11d 13:54:58 in Nanango in 1998. Impressively, Silkinas was 56 at the time.

Are you serious? It's a bloody attempt. He's having a go at it. It's well within the realms of possibility that he achieves that record. I'm not getting sucked into any bs. I'm watching a guy run around track. It's actually insane how some of you will find any excuse to hate and pick apart this thing. I've found some of you pretty balanced and I think there's interesting nuanced takes on both sides of the argument but this rhetoric right here is just sad. Don't get sucked in! I care as little about this record as I did about the kouros record.
However it goes he'll be in the top few times for the 1000 miles. But honestly none of his fans give a crap about that they just enjoy seeing him give it a go
Dude, I'm 100% serious he's not going for Petras' mark, if indeed that time is the "track record".
You can tell Nedd's not attempting to beat that time, simply because he's not running fast enough to accomplish it. And the longer he runs at the pace he has the last couple of days, (which are his most consistent back-to-back days he's put together for a week), the more unachievable beating that mark becomes.
Unless he opts to go without sleep tonight to give himself more running hours, then I can confidently predict that by tomorrow arvo he'll have dug himself into a hole that'll screw any chance he had of running under 12 days.
I'll be busting my arse racing 8km tomorrow morning, but from the starting gun I'll be running over a minute per km slower than the leaders.
Will I be busting a gut trying to run as fast as I can? For sure. Would you believe me if I tried to convince anyone who'd listen that I was trying to win that race?
Read my post #715. I'm one the people enjoying seeing him giving this a go. But I've been around this sport long enough to distinguish between probable, possible and fantasy.

All of which is irrelevant because, again, this performance is not record-eligible in the first place. It's not a race.
Thanks, Bob, for verifying Silkinas' Nanango run was the time that was referred to.
It was his third 1000 mile in as many years, plus a couple of 6 Days and a 72 Hour in the years prior to that. You can't undervalue the experience that gives at the back end of such a tight race against such a strong competitor as Bryan.
Sorry if I've missed it here, but is anyone tracking his performance in any useful way? The TikTok feed doesn't even show the current total, since he's off the track. Which is not too useful anyway without elapsed time.
Where/when is he now? What have his daily splits been?

You didn't miss anything Bob. There is no "recording" as we know it. They post "Master laps" which are all his laps he runs in different lanes, if it's done right it should add up to 12.8k for one Master lap. People mentioned that Nedd has been in the wrong lane a couple of times. The worst system you can do track lap counting.
There are no daily splits and they don't even tell you where in the day they are. Some said the run started at 4pm Sydney time and others said they actually started at 3.30pm. No they had a time change to normal time, so a day should end at 4pm. That's at least what I learned over the last 10 days.
Everything is very confusing. But hey, they are doing it for the "homeless".
Yes I know there is no official useful tracking. But surely people here have been keeping track? I saw a 6-day split. Someone must know at least where he is now, though it sounds like elapsed time might be less certain, crazy as that is.

Daily splits were advertised for 5 months at 100 miles a day. They have been:
103 [started day 2 a half hour early] 97 100 55 102 80 57 82 75 So that's 751 off 9 days, and now 30 miles in 9:40 today, and one of his very long naps. Looks like another 70-75 mile day incoming.
He will be spot on 13 days at the current rate - my [very] public prediction all along. If he has an absolute blinder, maybe he can get 12.6.
I did not envisage a 12 person luxury concierge service in my prediction, or some 400 miles of lovely pacing. I thought it would all be a tad more earthy, but it's been a full on Hollywood production, just like WG, PJ and RB are. These people are making movies as much as they are running. Most of us lot on here are more familiar with the term: "Beware! Of the runner who turns up with his stuff in a brown paper bag," .
Runfluencers have no clue that running is a simple sport. Not when they have dozens of different products to hock.

Bob, do you agree that Nedd has done more to popularize ultra running in this past week alone than your organization has been able to do this whole past year?
