All this talk of The Great South Run but Nicks (& Ben Feltons) performance at The Vitality 10K seems to have gone under the radar here, not much talk of it. A 30minute 10K on a very warm day in the capital is not to be sneered at and shows his training is working for him currently. Just my 2 cents anyway lol
I've heard the heat was so bad many people collapsed. Epic performance's by 2 of the UK's finest, but brushed under the carpet because Bester and Felton aren't in the "cool gang" on this thread.
oh lord not that race again. everytime someone mentions it on this thread an angel loses its wings. 🪽
Been watching Matt's channel for like 3 years now, he has always been a muscular guy but with obvious weight issues and fluctuations, I think this time round he has just leaned right out. He had previously ran like 37min 10k and 18m 5ks while being much heavier so I don't find it unrealistic that he surpassed them once he dropped substantial weight. He also did not post for like 6months or longer after his last sub 3 fail and subsequent weight gain leading to this current resurgence.
Anyone know what happened to Yowana yesterday? Started well then went out like a candle in the latter stages
Pure speculation, but his taper seems very odd. He dropped is mileage a ton from like 6+ weeks out. Then also ran a pretty hard LR the week before
On mileage alone you'd think he would be better than 2:42. 14/15 hours a week of running for a year and he actually gets 3 mins slower that Chitown 24?!
This YouTuber Griff Duncan. Is so annoying man. Defends Truett and just blasts Jeremy Miller for his comment. Like dude you failed to mention too how downhill your marathon PR was, what a joke. And I agree, he now bases his workouts and runs off a downhill pace.
Looks like today he flopped a HM. DNF. Will of course blame it on the weather. More cringe is that he’s wearing the Bandit racing vest.
Griff Duncan went out at 6:50 or 7:00 pace in the Naperville Half with next to no evidence in his training that he's capable of doing that for more than a couple miles. He's been complaining for weeks about how his Coros heart rate malfunctions -- and he has waged war with Coros customer support over it while publicly blasting them -- but he refuses to wear the actual heart rate strap from Garmin he has or to simply buy a new watch.
This has been an endless source of complaints from him. Bro, at a certain point running is about feel. Or fix your data, it's not that deep. I feel bad for his family coming out and watching him at his half marathon and then he just quits halfway through because he doesn't like his pace. This dude is such a crybaby, doesn't respect running, doesn't understand running, and he's just annoying/obnoxious in the most stereotypical hybrid bro way possible.
Spot on. With the wind being a factor he should've had the smarts to adjust his pace. Dude reposts Goggins reels all day it's so annoying. Just switch watches bro, what's with these stupid pointless complaints with Coros. Anyone know who his coach is?
I actually thought it would be way worse. I was in the front starting pen with Bester looking incredibly serious and sirpoc laughing and joking with his mates. Bester looked really focused and the rumour was he was targeting maybe even a 50 something. I asked sirpoc what he was aiming for and he laughed and said 'finish in one piece or stop at 10k and go to a pub on the seafront' but that anything under 53 would probably be about par for him at the moment.
I mentioned LRC and his main goal was Jiggymeister from the original thread to do a good run.
You have to hand it to Bester, he looked focused, serious and in great shape yesterday and really has started to perform lately. Shame he comes across as really a bit of a d**k, even in real life he just doesn't give off good vibes. So hard to explain.
I was in a group with sirpoc for a while, he eventually dropped about 8-9 of us and I think from 11k, and ran off in another gear and pretty much solo to the finish, unless he picked anyone up on route.
First time I have done the GSR in all my years running. It's a great event and can confirm sirpoc is genuinely as top a guy as you can imagine he is.
I'm a big fan of the thread. So always find it weird when I get brought up as I'm definitely not a YouTuber last time I checked ha ha.
It definitely isn't a "Long hot Summer" anymore (I'm here for the Style Council references). It wasn't too bad yesterday, at least it wasn't a westerly wind, but far from ideal like 2 years ago when it was the perfect GSR day.
Nice to meet you at the start, assuming you ended up with a decent time. You and another guy were driving the group on great and hope you got the time you wanted. I was hoping when I actually sucked it up and found a second wind , that a bunch of you would tag on, but I think I picked one runner up on the way to the finish and one guy tagged on from our group.
Sorry to disappoint members of the cult, but I certainly wasn't jogging round ha ha. Probably could have run a bit better, but absolutely miles off being near anything with a 51 in it. I'm quite a bit off where I was around London, but also I'm at almost peak lifetime cycling power. So I can't complain.
He’s so damn funny. I just saw his Strava and thought, how can he seriously run a sub-90 without a sub-20 or sub-40… yeah, well, until I saw that all his half marathons and marathons are huge downhill races.
For things that would be illegal to use for sports performance if you were a professional athlete under the jurisdiction of anti doping agencies?
No,but they test for all drugs, doubt he'd be willing to take a chance incase they flagged up.
Yeah you're sort of missing the point. The things we think he is taking for performance enhancement aren't 'drugs' at all in a non sporting context. No one's losing their job as a bus driver for micro dosing EPO.

Took a look at his Strava and his recap of Eugene is worrisome. He states that "the engine was there" and that if he increased his training mileage he would've held on and not crashed and burned the last part of the race. Doubt it man. The engine definitely wasn't there and it's an issue of not understanding what your marathon pace is.
Can attest to this. I had the misfortune of working with Nick when he was at EY. He was the most self-centered and narcissistic Senior Associate I've ever met (and theres been a few within Big 4). Would strut around the office thinking he owned the place and acting like his sh!t didnt stink.
