Harris entered the race late and many felt that her nomination was a coup of sorts. That kept some Dems and independents on the sidelines.

The DNC ran a horrible campaign centered on "vibes" and "She isn't Trump". Democrats need to run on kitchen table issues, not making history. Obama had charisma that Harris does not possess.
Trump refused to engage in debates with Harris beyond the first one.
The Main Street economy was not doing well in 2020 with rampant inflation and unemployment. Look at what those conditions are doing to Trump's numbers right now. People struggling financially don't vote for the incumbent, especially in swing states.
