Underdog california team, redondo union, whos goal is to try to actually make the state meet this year handily beats jserra (returns 4:17.3 average for 5 runners) and mira costa (4:21 average for 5 runners) in their first race of the season. Hopefully rich will move them up from the rated race to sweepstakes
Pretty fair rankings. CBA based off outdoor track would for sure be the #1 returner with a lot of their guys coming out of no where. Should be interesting to see how they perform.

I was reading this and wondering why it was so coherent. I mean it was spot freakin on. Then I saw it was written by Erik Boal. One of the best out there!
We are only 2 days away from Rocky fan boys posting results of them beating up on smaller classification teams.
Looks like Rocky Mountain pulled out of the timpanagos meet, instead racing everyone at a meet with 15 other schools in Jerome, Idaho. Only a combined 21 runners from those 15 schools have ever broken 18 minutes in the 5k.

When I talked to the Rocky coach at a clinic this summer he said that part of the reason they don't do many big meets is that their schedule just doesn't work. Tiger Grizz, Bob Firman, their Hoka Postal TT, and of course their sectional/state meets are non-negotiable.
I'm not sure why they couldn't make Timponogos happen, but they signed up pretty last minute so maybe they had bussing issues.
Either way, we'll get some data today, but it would be nice if they traveled up to Spokane. I checked their old schedule's and before covid they would travel up to Washington once per season.

I feel like the pressure on rocky mountain to race out of state is a bit unfair considering teams in midwest, northeast never do that. it is mostly just a west/south thing

It has much more with the way that they handled not getting selected for NXN the year they got third. Every team that has earned an at large has raced more than one large invitational. A lot of states have more than one big invite. Idaho does not. Teams in the west and south have to go seek out competition sometimes. Rocky doesn’t do that.
It is fair to point out they are racing bad teams when they beat those teams and then pound their chests afterwards.

Yeah all the california, south, southwest and most of the northwest best teams try to beat other region's teams at their home courses. Even if they don't do well, there is a certain level of respect for at-least trying, and leeway is given. I feel like one region that is left out in this is the south region, as they do travel to california and southwest courses. But nobody wants to travel to texas and race them lol. probably because it's too hot over there. Some good California teams even went to northwest's famous manhattan course last year. Wish midwest, northwest would take part of racing other regions more often, but that is their choice, and if they just want to focus on nxr, that's ok.
My cousin raced that Jerome meet today. I called him and he said that Rocky dominated but it was a lightning fast course and a bit short.
My cousin is a 19 min 5k guy and he said most everybody ran right around their PR's, with only a single Rocky guy breaking 16 and a few more in the 16's.
I really don't think that they will be a factor in the NW.
